Maybe we just read too much into each other's posts...call it a draw and move on to more important things than adding to the nonsense on the web? |

The "...for Dummies" web site actually has an article to explain this!
http://www.dummies.com/how-to/conten...ty-intact.html Excerpt: Under this federal statute, a manufacturer who issues a warranty on your motor vehicle is prohibited from requiring you to use a service or maintenance item, unless such item is provided, free of charge, under your warranty or unless the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) waives this prohibition against the manufacturer. Further, under the act, aftermarket equipment that improves performance does not automatically void a vehicle manufacturer's original warranty, unless the warranty clearly states the addition of aftermarket equipment automatically voids your vehicle's warranty, or if it can be proven that the aftermarket device is the direct cause of the failure.

You could say the same for any law. If people generally let an organization get away with breaking a law due to the inconvenience & cost of fighting them, the company will keep breaking it. Telling people to give up & not fight it just perpetuates the problem.

For a dealer to void your warranty, they HAVE to PROVE beyond a reasonable doubt that the modification caused the failure. However, if your modification requires you the open the engine block, heads, valve cover, transmission whatever, kiss the warranty good bye. An aftermarket exhaust will not void your engine warranty, and a CAI will not void your warranty either(unless you have the Injen and you think the car is thirsty and decide to drive into a lake to quench its thirst...).. seems like you need to find a different dealership. I find that most dealerships will tell people that any mod will void warranty if they think they can get away with it. how many average joe's know that a minor mod such as an intake or exhaust wont void warranty?

I guess I had better check with my local dealership and my surrounding ones first. I'm glad I read this thread as I almost had my garbage can sized mufflers hacked off this afternoon .
