Thumbs down L99 Timing Chan Tensioner Broken

So during my heads, cam, etc., install, a timing chain tensioner was found broken at just 33k miles.

What is the fix for a bullet proof setup?

Will this work? http://www.jegs.com/i/Cloyes/220/9-3673TX3Z/10002/-1

What i did as well as many others on here is to swap it with an ls2 dampener. The link you have is for a whole timing chain set but the tensioner pictured is the ls2 dampener. Unless you need the whole kit then you could just buy the dampener by itself and it’ll be much cheaper.

We upgrade all Camaro's to the LS7 solid tensioner to alleviate that issue.

LS2 or LS7 damper is the ticket!

Any tell tale signs prior to pulling the timing cover? Can you hear the chain rattle or anything before complete failure?

From what I was told, this is the GM ‘performance’ damper/number and is made to withstand more timing chain slap/performance use. Could be different material than the LS2 version (looked like it).

That’s all I was able to find out about it...

Got the LS2/LS7 damper.

Should I atleast upgrade the stock timing chain, too?

C5R chain would be a good upgrade/replacement
