Is it too much to ask

to tell my dealer I wont accept delivery if the following items happen...

1. Front plate bracket is installed.

2. Any dealer stickers are placed on the car.

3. They even think about letting some 18 year old wash it.

4. The only person that drives it is the person that drives it off the truck.

The first two are for obvious reason. I will be pissed if I have holes drilled in it or stickers on my paint.

The second two are personal things. I used to work at a dealership, and I know a) they are terrible at detailing cars for the most part, b) idiots do stupid things to cars they don't own.

Nope, tell them what you want, and they will give it to you. As long as they sell a car.

I will tell the dealer the same and probably camp out at the dealer on delivery day to make sure.

completely reasonable... unless its required by state law
2. Any dealer stickers are placed on the car.
completely reasonable. I dont want my car advertising
3. They even think about letting some 18 year old wash it.
the age of the person doesnt have anything to do with it. I've got a friend of mine who just turned 19 who works at one of the local gm dealerships and he does washing/detailing/paint like no other
4. The only person that drives it is the person that drives it off the truck.
there will be more than the one person driving it off the truck.... some one has to drive it onto the truck....

You're right on about all of it, but tell them sternly, make it clear how important it is.

Telling them you won't take delivery (I wouldn't take delivery either), just ratchets up tensions.

Remind them when the car comes in. They deal with Vettes, nobody wants them detailing their vette either.

It doesn't stop there. Everytime you take it into the dealer (or anywhere else) for service be sure and let them know you are writing down the mileage and do not want more then XX miles on it when you pick it up. Be sure and agree to the number of miles that are acceptable if they must road test it for any reason. I bot one of the very first 2004 GTO's. I could not test drive it, and no one at the dealer other then maybe one or two people had driven one. I bot it then drove it home. The first time I took it in for service I dropped it off and picked it up later that day.

Someone put 90 miles on it. Someone took my car for a 90 mile joy ride. I screamed bloody murder, wrote letters to everyone including someone at GM ( I don't remember who now). They all denied it and whats more interesting is the milage that was recorded when I brought the car in was gone from the ticket when I picked it up. So, watching out for our babies does not end once we get it off the lot!! Needless to say, I have not set foot on that dealer's lot since.

all reasonable requests, but like Spike said, #3 and #4 are more of an individual basis. i detailed for my local GM dealer when i was 18. i always had compliments on my work and the owner had me handle the work on his 03 Thunderbird, 50th Anniv Corvette, and 04 SSR. he even had me go to the auctions with the old guys to pick up cars (about 80 mi each way) & do a couple dealer trades. another guy i worked with was about 25 & he 'had a little fun' with an 02 Lightning that got traded in as well as wrecked a car on the way back from a courtesy customer drop-off. all that was to say that it all depends on how responsible the people handling your car are, not their age.

Several people will have driven it. The driver dropping it off, the person receiving it from that driver, and a mechanic, the do the predelivery inspection. Most dealerships don't have their own gas pumps (because the EPA can bring you down!) so they fill the gas tank prior to delivery.

Yes, tell them NO STICKER. Yes tell them NO FRONT PLATE BRACKET.

I worked for another dealer that sold LOTS of vettes....We had a 40+ guy in the detail shop. He got complaints as much as anyone would. He's done the work over 10 years, I've seen him work, but still happened. Most dealers have common sense and hand wash the "sensitive" cars, instead of using a car wash.

I've seen new cars and trucks get delivered with as high as 79 miles (A Tahoe Hybrid a few months ago) from the factory.

we hand washed all the cars. well... we had car brushes and a power sprayer. chamois dried every one too (freaking black ones had to be done quick).

Yes, it is too much to ask that no one at the dealership be allowed to move the car in and out of the service bays and then onto the lot (or into the showroom).

I would say that you aren't asking to much. Just be cool about it and most salespeople will understand that it isn't your run of the mill car. I asked my dealer before I became a salesperson myself to not detail it or do a lot of the things that you are asking for. I got a 2000 back in 1999 and all the plastic was left on it. The car had 8 miles on it, but CamaroScotty is right. There are some things that they did back then and still do now such as inspections, check oil and transmission levels, fill with gas, washer solvent, etc. I was happy with everything when it was all said and done.

I have in writing that the front plate bracket will not be installed. My dealer sales a lot of vettes and promised i'll get the same treatment.

As far as driving it....might not be able to get that one. Introduce yourself to the manager of the dealer and let him/her know your concerns. If you trust the dealer as a whole then you'll be fine.

I would rather have a younger person wash it than a 30 year old who is still washing cars...
