Question Airaid: how much oil is too much?

Filter sat in the garage near an open window, and when I picked it up this morning (with a paper towel) the paper towel still came away with some pink on it... The inside of the filter still looks fairly white, and only in one small section was I able to dab a little oil from the inside... Sound safe to put back on?

"Airaid: how much oil is too much?"

This question bugged me for years with the old K&N filters. I finally got so frustrated that I just started buying replacements instead of cleaning the old ones.

A little is going to come off on a towel and it's no biggie... All you need is enough oil to turn the entire filter piece one color... 1 good coat... If you worried you've over oiled it then place the filter on a fan blowing from the inside out and wipe the outside off with another papertowel and you'll be fine.

How many miles do you have on your car? Aren't these things good for 50+k miles between cleanings?

Depends on a few things...

1. how hard you drive the car. (if your agressive it will pull the oil through the filter and it will need to be re-charged earlier)

2. the conditions of your surroundings. (tx no more than 15k for me, whereas new york may get 25k)

3. size of filter and mods to car. (a bigger filter will last longer between charges than a smaller filter (Air Aid vs aFe), and a more modded car will have to be charged more often than a less modded car (LTs, high flow or no cats, TB, etc. VS cat back and CAI)

Is that opinion or fact? Just like some guys change their mobil 1 oil every 3k miles regardless of how they drive, when the manufacturer says it's good for 10k+ miles. Just don't want to get opinions passed around as facts.

Based off personal exp and common sence... I've used AFE, k&n and air aid CAIs on every vehicle I've ever owned and it's always been the first mod I've ever done. Oh and the shop I've worked at since I was 15 sells those brands so I've been dealing with them, recharging them, and installing them for the past 10 years. So you can call it what you want but, fact or opinion but no matter how you slice it, it's truth.
