New Skins

I finally couldn't wait any longer. The old OEM Pzeros were hard and worn to the bars and beyond.

These new Michelin Pilot 4S tires are rated the highest in the Max Perf Summer tires by Tire Rack. I found some time this afternoon to get to the tire store and have them mounted. But no time to drive them hard yet. Michelin doesn't make 245/45-20 and 275/40-20 sizes in this model of tire. So, I chose a 255/40 front and a 285/35 rear. This reduced the diameter down to about 28", from 28.7". They seem to fit nicely on the stock 8" and 9" wheels.

Let's face it, an SS never rode like a dream. I drove it two miles home. I'm sure it rides better than a 1LE or Z. But it does have 3/8" less sidewall than stock SS tires. I believe the rears are the same size used on the front of ZL1 and 1LE.

Remember tires are slick when new. Takes a 100 miles or so to get them to where their traction is optimal.

Good looking tire!

Though I'm still highly recommending that Nitto NT555 G2's... these are
pretty tires and perform great, especially thick (315's). Look into these when looking at your
next set. You will not be disappointed.

I've read a lot of good about the NT555 G2. The P4S is in the next higher category above the NT555. Both seem to be the top rated in their respective categories. But these categories are based on same size comparison, not dollar comparison.

I've heard they suck at the track, have you made any passes on them yet? I was wanting a set!

They hook very well on the street and love the turns through the hills. Haven't ran them on the track yet though so I can't really speak for that.

On my Chevy SS I went with the same size as the OP, but mounted the Conti EC Sport. They were a little cheaper than the MPSS, but the ratings just as good with better wet traction. So far they are an awesome tire, and will be putting them on the ZL1 as well.

I know with autocross and the 1LE most use the RE71R. I plan on using these tires for the track as well. If issues come up I may try the newest Goodyear tires used on the 2017 1LE.

The good and bad is that there are lots of choices. So many choices that it takes a good bit of reading to figure out what to buy for your needs, budget, etc.. There are trade offs too. You can substitute a larger tire that costs less and get performance gains thru size rather than higher tech expensive tires. I looked at getting wheels and getting a less expensive tire. I took the higher tech tire path. I haven't driven it hard yet and don't know if it was worth it or not. I could have bought some tires for almost half of what these cost.
