Granted, not all VoIP providers allow this type of behavior and some are quite strict, but for those that do allow these types of messages to "fly under the radar" it's quite profitable and generates a ton of revenue so they have no incentive to stop the madness.

The SMS / MMS ecosystem is not regulated and due to that reason the FCC does not really provide any oversight for SMS / MMS and as such it's more like the wild west.

sams club sells a phone that blocks these spam calls.i have one...works great.you have to program the #s you want to be allowed access, anyone else must say their name which blocks robo calls right there.if its a live caller and they say their name its your option to pick up or ignore.

I just received a good one today at my business! Said it was from the local electric company and that my bill was delinquent, the first call, I just hung up, but they were persistent! Called back 3 times and on the third one...I talk to the guy, says...that he is going to give me the number to the billing dept. and I need to call them immediately, otherwise my service will be shut off in one hour. So I get the number and call the electric company myself to report the problem and they are already aware of it. Surprisingly, the lady told me that many people had already fallen for it!

I love the "This is "Lenney" anti-scam recordings on you tube. I don't know that this is commercially available but it's funny as heck.

As for Becky, she probaly has to answer all call, might be a customer.

I get scammers at least every other day! As others have said, i let it go to voicemail if I don't recognize the number. Never heard of Hiya but I just installed it.

I get calls for William Wallace (Scottish knight) with affordable healthcare offers. Used to get them several times per day, now a few times per week.
I use hiya also.
Ps—my name is not William Wallace.

Its not legal, especially if your name is on the Do Not Call List. DOJ is just doing nothing to enforce the laws...what else is new?

Do not call lists only work if the business is legitimate and legal....You really think a scammer is going to honor the do not call list?....lol...

What is legal are robo-calls and robo-call equipment....Who uses them is the problem.

I'm glad I'm not the only one noticing this. There has definitely been an uptick in the spam calls. I never pick up if its a number not in my phone book. But I used to get just a few a week, now i'm getting several per day.

There is also a lot of the fake 'IRS' calls too.

I've had all my numbers on the do not call list for 3 years now. I still get calls on both personal and work phone.

if you get a spam call, do not say anything, hang up immediately, don't even stick around and use their "remove me from your list" feature. go here https://complaints.donotcall.gov/com...aintcheck.aspx

post the number there. Ever since I've been using that site (legit ftc site), my spam calls have been reduced. I still get atleast 2 a day usually, but it was literally 5-10 a day, no joke. both of my phones' block numbers list is atleast 200 numbers between them (probably some repeats, but I don't care to check)
