Lack of t-roof question

Hello all,

Dumb newbie question. I think I read that t-roofs will not be offered because of body flex issues with all the power the car will have? Is that true? If so how can they offer a convertible? Would that not have less rigidity? I loved the T-roofs in my '83 Z28 (when they did not rattle)...

Thanks!

Welcome

I think T-tops were hacked because they weren't as safe as ahaving a sunroof, and this car needs to be world class (including safety), I'm not totally sure on that but when you get a convertible, your obviously not thinking about safety.

PS. We all loved those t-tops, but we are gonna have to wait for the next gen.

T-tops are more expensive to engineer and produce. so instead of T-tops Sunroofs, and a convertible, they just went with the sunroof and convertible route..

Yes, that is true. All vert's have additional reinforcement to make up for the lack of a roof and they almost always weigh more than a coupe. But this reinforcement isn't enough.

I doubt a car could even pass crash tests with t-tops these days. Not to mention the noise, the leaks, takes 15 seconds to break into the car, etc. etc.

I would also think that storage of the T-tops would be an issue. It was easy on 4th gens to store them since the storage area was so deep behind the rear axle that you could store the tops in a vertical position.

But they did get around this with the new Soltstice coupe by saying you can't put the top in the car.

There will be no T-tops for the Camaro because safety and weight issues made that impossible for this generation.

I've had my t-tops for 6 yrs and mine never leaked, they don't make noise and wouldn't it be easier to break the side window and get in in 5 seconds.

I had Ttops in my 84 Olds Cutlass. Had it for years, and not a single leak either. No noise or leaks.

That depends on how high the IQ is of the thief.. Will they try and go thru the giant metal reinforced door or break the window right next to it to get into the house..?

There's a good reason why so many criminals end up in the running for the Darwin Award every year.
