Any current V6 car will out perform your old Firebird, it's simply old tech vs new tech. I'm sure your current car is stock and nothing more.

My car is great on smooth roads but its harsh on rough ones. I think the 20" wheels and lower profile tires are the main culprits for that. As far as cornering I don't find it that great mainly due to my a$$ sliding around on the leather seat

Really, that was very adult of you.... WS6 aka Firebird wasn't fast compared to modern tech, hate to inform you of that. I use to beat them with my daughters Saturn Sky Redline. Truly not impressed with them... Have you owned or driven any modern 2.0L turbo cars... They will beat a WS6

I would say you should time a 0-60 run and compare that to the time specs from GM for your car. That would put the super car theory to bed or confirm it.
I don't have a good way to do that and going to the track is out of the question any more. I'd love to know what it does, I'm guessing very low 13's as the WS6's I had were around 13.2 13.5 range.

The neighbors 17 v6 Camaro turned 13.5 in the quarter and my car is faster.

6 gens will do, (supposedly) 13.7. The 5 gens around 13.9-14.2 in the 1/4. I have a 2LT RS (2012, 6spd man) as well, and it is pretty stout in the handling dept, now even better since I have BMR components installed. But I have auto-x'ed my last 5th gen (2012 6sp man) and on the road course stock, and it was impressive. I have some you tube vids of it on the track along with my 6th gen RS. (12blkgray RS) I cant really compare to the WS6 since I haven't driven one since my GM tech days, (mid -90's).

The LS1 4th gens were not a really great handling car compared to the 5th gen Camaros But they did run very well even stock. Easy to get into the 12's with bolt ons and a tune.

I don't know why some people on this site seem to have such a problem with my boasting how well my v6 performs? I guess some people don't like when others are happy with what they have. I have to say its one of the coolest cars I've owned and to me its super affordable reg gas 25 mpg local driving fast as anything out there PLUS every place I go someone comments about it. Always something nice.

25mpg local driving at this performance level is awesome. Plus I live in a very hilly area.

Hey 152LT - It will be hard to tell by looking at the springs alone to see if they are aftermarket. A lot of companies offer springs in black as well as red and the black one look like the stock springs if you have nothing to compare them too. Pictures will help determine if its lowered with springs only, but you might also want to measure ride height and compare to stock.

The proper way to measure to avoid any differences in tire pressure and size is to measure from the bottom of the wheel lip to the fender. My 2010 2SS measures 27" in the rear and 26.9" in front on stock suspension with 20" wheels. My 2011 2LT convertible measures 27.1" rear and 27" front on 20" wheels.

If you are an inch or so less, you most likely have lowering springs. And if that is the case, it could have some of the stiffer non-progressive rate springs which are quite a bit harsher on bumpy roads. If you like the ride height but want a softer ride when cruising, I'd recommend looking into some progressive rate springs. Otherwise if you are lowered and you just want to go back to stock, consider posting a WTB in the classified section of the forum. I wouldnt be surprised if you could pick up some stock springs for $50-$100 or so. And of course you'll have to align it afterwards.

Lastly, just my 2 cents on the WS6 vs modern tech stuff... I've had both a 2001 WS6 M6 and 5th gen 2LT auto. Both are nearly identical in straight line performance. And my 5th gen is convertible and probably weighs a good 400-500 lbs more than the TA. The 5th gen v6s were greatly improved over the 4th gens. I love them all though and wish I still had my TA!!!

When I bought my SS it was pretty stiff and the ride as you described. I bought new tires and I would say the comfort level increased 2x. The ride is much smoother but still a little stiff as I think it should feel. I really think brand of tire makes the difference in both comfort level and interior sound. My tire brand was pretty cheap too. Ebay bought LEXANI. Reviews were good and I've had em now for a few k miles. I don't think i'll buy another brand. That's how much a difference it made for me. I don't track my car though as there are better tires for the track I'm sure.

I just made the assumption that that massive, fire-breathing, generator of horsepower awesomeness sitting over the steering wheels gave it a very different feel than the paperweight V6. Pretty sure on some level I’m right. Right and doing a little of my own boasting!
