What are the odds of this??? ( video )

I did track day event at my home track this weekend ( NJMP, Lightning course ) Up to this point I had never seen a Mustang GT350R in person and I thought I never would as most buyers will hoard them away in collections. Phoenix racing shows up with their hauler and pro driver Preston Calvert with his own personal GT350R. So here is my Z/28 with Bridgestone RE-11s with passenger and Preston in his GT350R on Mich Sport Cup2s alone, 91° air temp. Lot of cars were running hot and pitting in early.

Please excuse the video quality as this was my first time using this cam and I literally popped the box open and stuck it in the car.

As I came out of the pits he is already on a hot lap right behind me, I let him by and see if I could keep up.

Oh... For comparison the Pirellis are a little over 1 sec faster then the BS RE-11 at this particular track putting the Pirellis at a low 1:13 vs low 1:14 on the RE-11. All traction completely off..

That is pretty cool, Preston is a good driver as well.

If I remember right he is from here in DFW, but I haven't had a chance to see his R in person yet.

We spoke after the session and he is a very nice guy. He introduced me to the owner of Phoenix and said I was " driving the wheels off the Z/28 " He recons the lap time difference is because I had a passenger inside my car. I think it would have been a similar outcome regardless. This was a marathon day, 12 sessions, 4 tanks of fuel and worn out brake pads. Post race inspection revealed no flaws with the car, ran great all day..

Nice! The R was fast, but w/Pirellis and sans the passenger I assume it would've been closer.

With the Pirellis I would have been faster. I have run faster lap times then he was on Trofeos. However I dont think it would have been a fair fight. Cup 2 is a 180 treadware RE-11 are 200, yes the Cup 2 is a better tire but nowhere near a TrofeoR as far as grip goes.

It was super hot that day. All the high hp cars were running hot. The Z06 you see pit in was also having cooling issues. My oil temp warning also came on as it reached over 300, thats why the video ended early. Preston only ran a few sessions that day. I'm guessing he didn't want to abuse his car too much. It did cool off later and with some short shifting the oil temp never got higher than 290 for me.

Good job! He was pushing hard to get away from you. Looks like you pressured him into getting loose.
