Normal break in VS hard break in.

I saw this on Utube thought it would make for a good discussion. I personally broke mine in per the owners manual.

Who will be the first to claim.....

"The auto manufacturers tell you this so the engine will last through the warranty but wear out shortly after, plus since the cylinders did not seal as tight as they would with a hard break-in, it reduces stress on all the components due to less HP being produces, plus my second uncle says this is BS!"

I have a Friend was is over 65. He has been a Mechanic of a Dodge dealer for more than 40 Years. We have had this discussion. He would not disagree with the beak-in instructions, but he did say he had a friend that bought several brand new vehicles. He said the first thing the guy did when he left the dealer was drop it to the floor, and he never brought any of them back for engine issues. Here is one of his quotes. (Treat it like a puppy when you break it in. It grows up to be a Dog.)

There is a right way and a wrong way to break in new vehicles. What cracks me up are the people who tell you to drive a new vehicle like you stole it.

What is your occupation? I will bet none of them are mechanics, machinist, or engineers. I am an engineer for over 30 years. I have a lot of friends who are mechanics and engine builders who will say the same thing. Follow the owners manual to the letter.

Please tell us your occupation if you think to drive a new vehicle like you stole it.

GM seems to be getting more and more serious about this. I recently picked up a 16 Stingray Z51 with a drysump LT1. Multiple digital dash and MRC settings, but regardless of what mode you were in, yellow was at 3,500 rpm and redline was at 4,500 RPM until I went over 500 miles. Even after the first 500 miles, anytime the engine is cold, 3,500 and 4,500 still apply. GM also requires and pays for a 500 mile oil change (a couple reasons for this) but they are very serious about getting this done. There are still multiple warnings about operating the engine at high RPMs for a prolonged period (such as track use) until you reach 1,500 miles. I follow the recommendations as I plan on having the car for a while.

I've always heard. Drive it like you are going to drive it everyday. If there is a problem, it's best to find out while it's new and under warranty. I'm not talking about abusing it either. I've had several new cars and trucks and haven't never had a problem doing it this way.

I broke mine in very gently. I feel there can't be any damage in taking good care of your vehicle.
