New Owner and a few questions

Hi All,

New here and thought I'd make one thread for everything rather than several over several boards!

Mechanical Engineer from Orlando, FL. Have been looking into these cars for a while but found a deal I couldnt pass up

2014 Camaro LS with 17xxx miles for $15800. Clean title, no accidents or damage etc except 1 spot seen below

Anyways, this car already had the key "recall" done. I have ordered new switchblade blanks - the dealer will have no issue cutting these even though there is a "recall"? I don't have the original key code tags, but with the title in hand and existing keys, they should have no problem cutting for a reasonable fee, correct?

Does anyone know where the "chip" is on the rev B plastic keys? I have a habit of drilling a hole in a spare key and stashing behind the plate, in case of emergency, but would hate to drill right through the chip.

Finally - the only damage to the car is the picture below, by the license plate. It seems I can replace that piece of plastic for around $150 but couldn't hurt to attempt to fix it first, right? Does anyone have experience working with these - I would assume a heat gun technique? Or just forget it / replace it?

Probably not going to do any mods for a while as I like the car as it is and electronics are not important to me, but open to tips / ideas / suggestions from anyone. Probably just going to add the Rexing dashcam for now.

unless you tried to fill that damage and repaint the whole piece, I think it will look really bad. just replace

The Z28 has a painted version that looks really slick

If you have an original key, the copies can be cut at the dealer real quick.
Most charge about 20 bucks per key.
When I bought mine, it came with one FOB, so I ordered another FOB on Ebay and took it to my dealer. They cut it for free.

Congrats and welcome to C5. I can't help you with the bumper problem but I would like to say PLEASE don't do the shark teeth front grille insert mod. The license plate is bad enough. To each their own.

Great deal on a nice car.
Catch can and larger front and rear sway bars would be my mods in that order.
My only complaint is severe understeer.
Enjoy the awesome car.

Welcome! Nice ride!

The chip on the key is under the plastic as close as it can be to the ignition cylinder.

Personally, I would never hide a spare behind the plate. First place thieves look. Keep an extra in your pocket.

Scope Big Worms for light tints, was my first mod and not very expensive.

Money is tight right now so can I just replace the rear or the front sway bar for now. Which one is more important the rear or the front ? Will I need the links? Thanks

Rear.

Endlinks will make a difference but not necessary until you can afford them.
