Federal law doesn't mandate a pre-determined exact length between the engine and the catalytic converter, but the length of the exhaust tube before the catalytic converter is a Federal emissions issue due to fact that the longer the distance is between the engine and the converter, the more difficult it is for the converter to reduce cold start emissions.

The further the converter is away from the engine the longer the converter will take to reach its light-off temperature (the temperature at which the converter reaches a 50 percent conversion rate). Roughly 80 percent of the emissions measured during Federal emissions testing occur during the first few minutes after cold start. If the converter is too far away from the engine, the vehicle will not be able to pass Federal emission standards and, therefore, will not be able to be certified to be legally driven in any state in the U.S.
Yep.... Much more informative than my post!

Yeah that dealer tried to hose me on something else as well...

Anyway, I've really been looking forward to the new ZL1 but I got impatient and picked up another beautiful car today... I'll hang around here because you guys are cool!

Thanks to those that answered my question!

Hell, there's probably 500 Camaro5 members who would order them within the first month =]

Surprise!! A salesman who'll say whatever it takes to get you to drive off in a car from his lot... Its just a tactic to convince you that you need to buy today...

Looks like you're in CA so you wouldn't be able to buy/use it anyways:
SLP wants $80K for that 750 hp ZL1, oh and by the way that is just for the upgrades and doesnt count the cost of buying the original Camaro, so you are looking at well over $115K for that car which will only do 11.1 in the 1/4 mi. Ughhhh . . . I think NOT!!

I saw an SLP ZL575 at the Lake Tahoe Hot August nights car show auction. They got bids up to 62k for the car and would not sell it. They wanted 70k said it was a limited edition car. I thought to myself what is so limited edition about it? It is a 2011 Transformers camaro that anyone can buy at anytime they want, and it has an overpriced SLP supercharger on it, and some ugly wheels. So what is so limited edition about it?.. I got a really good laugh that it likely went back on a trailer to sit for while longer. And to pay 120k for an SLP ZL1 is plain stupidity, sorry but for over 100k I will take a ZR1 instead.
