Well, I am a Police Officer in Illinois and I could tell you that if you came to Illinois with tinted windows and you had out of state plates I would not pull you over. Why? I don't have law books for all 50 states in my squad to determine if you are violating your states tint laws. No cops carry that info in their squads. There is a cheat sheet list of state tint laws out but it doesn't list what that states statute it falls under and how the wording of that out of state statute is written. Yes I could use my Iphone to search for that info but why? Im not that hardup to bang anyone with a ticket. Not to mention how could your state of NC enforce that out of state law? Would they then forward the money received from the conviction to the State of Illinois? I don't think they would. There are compacts with most of the states but that is for suspended/ revoked DL's and for bond info. Not for minor law infractions like tinted windows. If you killed someone and were from out of state that would be a different story due to the fact it is a crime against a person and a Felony.

I'm a police officer also & I would bet they will be less likely to write tickets when 400+ cars are coming to the state. They will look the other way on some violations.. But if you are just plan STUPID and so soemthing to cause them to look at you... they could add that citation... In general ..I don't think most will be have a problem.

If they happen to write me a ticket, they will have to come to my door step to get me.... It's a long way to my doorstep.

While I am not an officer in Georgia, I can speak from many years of experience, and like my friend Supercop, I highly doubt the local officers will be looking for stuff to write as long as everyone drives appropriately. I am sure the many officers on this site will agree.
Most law enforcement personnel will just be admiring all the cars and making sure people and their cars are safe while we are having a good time. I hope people that are planning to be fest participants don't worry about the small things. Everyone will have lots of fun at the fest. |

I didnt wanna worry people, I just wanted to let everyone know of the possible issues so it would be no surprise. Do I think you will get pulled for just tint? No!! Do I think if you get pulled for something else that you may get a ticket for your tint? Possibly!!

even in florida they will get you for tint and seatbelts, but mostly if they pull you for something else. but that something else could be as simple as a little swerve avoiding bumps in the road claiming probable cause that you could be under the influence or a tail light out! however ive never been pulled for either tint or belts and almost every car ive owned had "illegal" tint!
my 2004 dodge had 5% on top of factory tint, and the exploder in the background had 20% mirror

I know what the new law says but I am curious about something. I live in AZ, tint law in AZ is 33% on the driver/passenger window and unlimited on the rest of th side and rear windows. Whereas, GA is 32% all the way around.
If my car is registered in AZ, how can I be held to GA law? I would guess you would be able to fight the ticket and win based on that. |

I've lived here since 07 and have never heard of any of my friends getting tickets for tint....although if your out driving around like an idiot and showing off they will pull you over and they will look for reasons to give you a ticket...just be smart and courtious and there shouldn't be any problems!! Really can't wait till April!!!!

APD wont be a problem. GSP can stop you if its too dark, but with out of state plates, and the C5 fest, the reason your here, it would most likely be a verbal warning, unless your driving like a jackass. As far as probable cause to check you, like speeding...
In the A, everyone speeds. Cops look for speeders weaving in and out, not flowing with the other vehicles, that sort of thing. APD usually gives you 10 or less over the speed limit. GSP on the other hand, its less than 5. |
