I still fail to understand the basis for comparing the SS to the GT500. The only commonality that I see is that they are the fastest Mustang and fastest Camaro that Ford and Chevy build. At least the Corvette has a similar price and similar performance. The Challenger SRT8 has a similar price, but it still starts several thousand less than the GT500 does.
Edmunds also says that the GT500 should be compared to the Corvette ...

The reason you compare the GT500 to the Vette is it is the top machine from each company. There is no "vette" in the Ford lineup. The GT500 IS their vette. This to me is the same as comparing the Mustang GT to the Vette. You are taking the lesser performance model in the company's lineup and comparing it to the flagship performance model of the other company.
Sure they serve different purposes in the sense on vette = coupe GT500 = 2+2. But that is Fords TOP model performance car. That is why I compare them. This whole tread is pointless anyway. For the money that is in the GT500 you could take practically any car on the road and make it faster after market. Nothing is truely ever comparable once you allow the "after market" argument to come in. |

That is a good deal. However, to use the point made many, many times on this board but in a different way, I could buy the 2010 GT500 for $48K, spend $7K for a KB blower and a set of drag radials, run mid-to-low 10's in the quarter and have spent $13K less than you did to get into your Z06. I don't know if anyone else has noticed but the supercharged GT500 is more on par with, dare I say it?, Japanese and European sports sedans such as the IS-F, M3 and RS4. All of these sedans boast a short-stroke V8, as opposed to the long-stroke 8-cylinder of the GT500 and even the 2SS. Even then, it's a better comparison, as the 0-60 and quarter mile times are in the ball-park. The price range is similar too. But if I was at the head of the Ford performance department, I'd be a bit ashamed than cars with 100 less hp and loads less torque are achieving similar times (all due to stroke... if only the Americans would give up long-strokes).
