Mylink trim?

I want to change the color of my MYlink trim wondering if I can take it out and paint it (worried that the transparent parts for the lights) or if I can order a prepainted one and if so where i can go to order one?

I took mines out and took it to the dealer to find out. I was told by the service and parts department that the mylink unit does not come apart. You can't take to knobs off and the bezel can't be taken off. If thats the case I don't see a way to have it painted or hydro dipped.

It must come apart somehow. We need a cheap, ruined unit to play with, without worry of damage. Worst case is that it's fused together somehow, making disassembly difficult without causing damage.

Outside of that, I would think that a good body shop should be able to expertly mask off the areas that shouldn't get painted. Though, I don't know what you're going to do about the area on the plastic where light shines through for fan speed and temperature.

i like the idea of finding an old one to play around with. As far as a shop doing it, i am trying to da as much as possible by myself or with a professional (not being cheap just developing skills)

This guy is making some good disassembly progress for an altogether different reason:

Yes I saw that but doesn't really go into how he took it apart, but does show good promise that it's possible just don't know how easy it is

Mylink trim?

It comes apart. Just a hella lot of tiny screws but nothing difficult. Dissambly took about 15 minutes when I painted mine.

Nice. How did you deal with the area above the knobs where light shines through for fan speed and temperature?

Vinyl decals. If you look closely at the pic you can see them.

Cut them on a vinyl plotter. They're nothing fancy though.
