This is a lot like banning the horse collar tackle it is dangerous and leads to injuries

With the hip drop the tackler pulls the opponent towards them and gator rolls onto their legs.

The potential for injury is significant.

I do realize that, but what are the defenders alternatives in that situation? Typically that tackle is going to be made from behind and the defenders goal in using that technique is to bring the ball carriers down and prevent him from gaining any additional yards. Maybe the ballcarrier is close to a first down and the intent is to stop his forward momentum. What can he do now? If he grabs him around the waist or higher and drives through the runner (assuming he has enough speed to do that) then he is basically conceding the first down. He could attempt to dive and wrap up the runner's legs, but then what is the potential for injury going to be in that case?

My concern with the quality of the competition is that we end up with situations like the Saints-Vikings play-off game in 2018 after they started calling penalties on high hits and the Saints defenders was afraid to hit Diggs high, so he dove at his legs and missed and basically let him catch the ball and run for the game winning TD. Six years later, defenders pretty much let receivers catch the ball before they tackle them, rather that risk a unnecessary roughness penalty.

They have done an awful lot to tie the hands of the defense in the name of player safety and if their goal is to eliminate every type of contact that has the potential to cause injury, eventually they'll be playing two-hand touch.

The ones they want to stop are the guys who use the technique to roll up on the ball carriers legs.

It appears some teams use this form of tackling more than others

There may be some flags but it is mostly a mechanism to fine players.

Bills sign DT De Shawn Williams formerly of the Panthers and Broncos.

Increasing the Williams count on the Bills by 50%

I just watched Hard Knocks Miami yesterday.

I discovered it while channel surfing and picked it up at week 11 just after their bye week.

Just a few observations

I don't know if its just me but Mc Daniel comes off as a bit of a douche.

I noticed quite a few players tuning him out when he was trying to motivate them.

He has a weird/strange way of speaking .he never seems to find the right words such as at practice when he substitutes some made up word for intensity.

Some of his motivational speeches made me cringe.

One thing that made me laugh(not in a good way) is when he told the players they could have Christmas Day off.

Jeez coach your all heart not bringing them in to break down film on a Monday...how about a Christmas/Boxing Day duo?

Monday is film day most weeks and Tuesday is generally the players regular day off (except on Thursday night games.

I think this could be his last year if they don't win a playoff game.

JMHO

What a day for the NFL

Cortland Sutton finally turns himself in on domestic violence charges.

Rashee Rice decides to go street racing at 6:30 am on a Monday and crashes then leaving the seen with eye witness videos surfacing of the whole thing.

Then tragically this comes out.

Vontae Davis dies at age 35 the Former first round pick of the Fins was a 2 time Pro Bowler for the Colts.

In his last season he signed as a FA in Buffalo you could clearly see he was struggling and wasn't completely healed from an abdominal pull/torn muscle.

He got torched on a long TD in the Bills home opener and left the field at halftime and didn't return changing into his street clothes and leaving the facility.

I will tell you it was almost 100 degrees that September day(9/16/18) and the heat in the stands was unbearable let alone the field which was at least 20 degrees hotter.

I felt like quitting as a fan that day LOL

I watched him getting burned in the preseason that year he just looked like he was finished

RIP Vontae

It was not a good trade, but probebly was the best we could get given his age and salary. They decided he was no longer worth the drama. I just hope whichever receiver we end up with in the first round can make an immediate impact.
