We never had "special" anythings back in the day and had to rely on driving ability.

I still practice that today. Force of old habit.
I used to sleep on the package tray of dad's Plymouth.

If you did not close the doors hard enough, they might come open going around a turn.

Yet somehow I am still here.

When I was growing up we had a '32 Chevy coupe. It had no trunk lid. When not raining we kids rode in the back. If it was raining, we stood behind the seat just in front of the rear window.
But I'm not sure we survived.

The tires are just fine for rain. People just need to learn how to drive in bad weather. I will however agree that these tires aren't good for winter use.

I wasn't out that night but I have been on 71 near Polaris when it has rained that hard and seen rivers and ponds form on the highway. Also seen an suv in the wall. I'm not sure if that is where you were but they really need to fix that. Very dangerous area no matter what tires you have.

My car doesn't go out in the rain. The choice of summer tires has to be considered. They are best......well.......in Summer! As the name implies.

Time for a driver mod. Drove my car on summer tires year round. Only time traction was a little iffy was in the snow but still manageable. Adjust your driving style

I live on the edge, P zeros in the rain with traction control off.

Seriously, I avoid driving the Camaro in the rain, it's no fun. If you are having fun then you will be complaining you wrecked your car and blaming it on your tires.

While I do not DD my car anymore, I did for the first year. If you drive sensibly in wet conditions, summers are fine. Driving slower and having good anticipatory skills will likely keep you between the lines... my two cents...
