2015 Motor Trend Car of the Year Finalist
I can't believe it!! The Chevy Camaro did not even make the list!!! However, the Rusttang did. Who picked the judges, surely they are out of their minds not have Camaro's in the pack. Sad day for Motor Trend.

To be fair, the Camaro is over 5 years old now without any major improvements other than a face lift, so it doesn't surprise me. I'd wait and see how that list pans out when the 6th gen comes out.

I think you are forgetting the 2015 Z/28. Kind of a big deal...

They wouldn't name that car of the year because it s a one purpose vehicle. You won't see a race car win this award.

While it may be true that a street legal race car may not win car of the year, my point was to point out that there was something more than a facelift since 2010. The Z/28 was just the latest major improvement. One could easily argue there's more major improvements since 2010 like the ZL1, 1LE, etc.

z28 won it in '82.
Although the '82 edition was not a 'race car' in and of itself, there's plenty of 'race cars' that are on the street if you want to use a broad enough definition of 'race car'. Typically the definition is more along the lines of a car built specifically for competition that is not DOT legal. I'm sure many Golfs will be used in racing competition.

But they aren't going to give a car Car of the Year because of one other trim level. The ZL1 has been out since 2012. Really the same car since it came out. The regular Camaro hasn't made any strides in terms of technology either. The Z 28 is literally the only model that is brand-new for Camaro. The cars they are giving this award to are cars whose entire line have been redesigned. Like the new 2015 Mustang.

Yeah but you know what I mean. Even GM advertises the car as something that should be used on the track. While it is street legal it's not the most daily driver friendly car. Something like a golf can go either way.

The Camaro is not eligible for this year's competition. Also, the Z/28 is not new for 2015.
I suggest reading the criteria Motor Trend uses for its "of the Year" awards. |

the updated 2010 mustang was entered , and that was the only time i can remember a car that wasn't 'all new' being in it.
although the 1994 mustang actually won it and we know it's chassis was basically a carryover with a new body. |

It's hard to get a stock Camaro SS to hook up. Just imagine what it would be like with 700hp. That's why some magazines had to use 2nd gear just to get the car off the line. The car just wouldn't hook up at all using 1st gear. A 1LE Camaro SS could beat the Hellcat on a road course. The Z28 would embarrass it. |
