Considering re-moving the door panel inserts, dash inserts and the counsole guages for painting IOM. After all the mods I have done so far, it scares the hell out of me to muck with plastic trim stuff.

Any thoughts or advice on this project. To be honest I really wanted the IOM interior package, but I could not live with all that orange leather. Just too much for my liking.

Easy as cake to do. If you can find a friend in the area to help, it's really some easy stuff. You just need 5 lights, a light tube for the dash and light tubes for the doors, the connectors, the door and dash inserts....aaaand that's it. I'm still waiting on Lupe to get his lights in. Once he gets them, we are going to toss his stuff together in record time.

Oh. You must have mis-understood. I want to remove the door panel inserts, dash inserts and center counsol guages to have them painted IOM. Not doing the light thing right now.

If you are planning on repainting what you have, you'll need to repaint from the outside leaving a clear strip up top for the light to shine through. If you are planning on painting from the inside, just buy new inserts....believe me, it AIN'T WORTH IT!!!! As, I've done it!

Yes, you'll need to paint the center gauge console, but the other stuff you can simply buy new if you wanted. And, it'll only take an hour to install the inserts (all of them) yourself. It'll take a few hours if you've never done it before, but I could have your dash inserts done in 5 min....doors....mmmm 40 min tops. It's rather easy. It's the painting that is going to be the pain if that is the route you decide to go.

Will I be able to easily see what has to be masked in order for the ambient light to work?

The weather will finally cooperate with my schedule. My insurance guy has already faxed the permit to me. I'm good to go for a blast in Pumpkin tomorrow.Cool, clear and sunny for a few days. Pumpkin will slide around a bit due to cold roads, but I deal with it.

From your post regarding painting the door panel inserts, I am lead to believe that I have to mask a thin strip for the door panel to let the ambient light strip shine through?

If you are going to paint the door inserts on the outside, yes...you'd need to tape off the very top part and not paint it...or the light won't shine through.

Well there was frost on the Pumpkin this morning when I got up. Yesterday's test drive went well. Everthing seems good. Later today Pumpkin needs a good bath and then back into hibernation for detailing and some paint mods. Hope to get to the Heritage grill installation done this weekend.
