1000 Mile Oil Change???

I just hit 1000 miles on my car, I was told that it would be a good idea for me to get an oil change once I hit my first 1000 miles.

What are people's opinions on this?

Also, as far as were to get the oil changed, is it better to go to the dealer and pay extra or stick it to like a reliable quick lube shop?

You need to look at the Mechanical Maintenance: Break-in / Oil & Fluids / Servicing section.

Yes do it! I plan on getting my first oil change at 500 miles.

As for getting it done, it's better obviously to do it yourself but if you can't, go to someone that you can trust and that will use Mobil 1 5w-30. I find that most quick lube places just use the cheapest dino oil they can find and some dealers are this way as well so before you decide visit the places first and ask questions. If you can't find one that you trust to use Mobil 1, buy the oil yourself and take it with you.

Nothing says you have to do it, but what can it hurt?

I would. But if you dont and wait till 3000 miles it will probably be 10-15yrs before it made a real difference.

Is it possible to change your oil too often? I would have probably done it at 500.

The reason people have changing their oil at 1000 miles is due to the metal shavings from the engine break in. They also recommend K&N HP 7003 oil filter with Mobil 1 5w30. I changed my oil around 1000 and then again at 3000. Now I will change it when it comes up in my display.

I see you have 2lt, do you think he should put mobil 1 in it for the first oil change. I know the v6's are shipped with conventional oil not mobil1. Just some food for thought.

First oil change at 900 miles I kept my 2LT as dino, then at 3,000 switched to Mobil 1 and obviously continue on as such...also switched to K&N Oil Filter at 3,000 as well.

I was given the impression that you shouldn't put synthetic oil in until at least 10K miles... To make sure the motor is broken in. ???

The SS comes from the factory with Mobil1 synthetic. The V6 has Dino.
