No engine cover and I want to add a hood vent, is that a problem?

Hey guys,

I have a 2010 that I've taken the engine cover off of and I want to add the OEM hood vent (the one in the center) to my car. I can get the OEM hood vent for about $100 bucks and I don't plan on using the rain guard, but I'm a little worried about rain/snow getting onto/into the engine bay.

My question is, should I be worried though?

I remember reading a comment from someone that said the engine is sealed and all the connections are watertight so it shouldn't be something to be worried about, but obviously if it's going to be an issue I'll reconsider.

Car is a DD in rain, snow, etc.

No need to be worried but it does take a little longer to warm up with no rain tray in the winter

No issues here and I run a much bigger hood vent by trackspec that is fully open and no rain tray. I have ran it in pouring rain with the engine kinda wet and still runs great.

I ran the hex vents on my Camaro with the drip trays in place, no engine cover and no issues at all. Plus it helped keep the engine compartment cooler, you could see the heat waves coming out.

Shouldn’t be an issue. Majority of everything is pretty weather tight in the engine bay form what I have experienced. I run my car with no covers on the engine since day 1. After a year I ditched the rain guard. I also removed the fiberglass hood liner underneath so it didn’t get messed up or soaked etc. I added reversed side bonnets to that pulls air in to help push hot air out of the engine bay. I can’t tell you how things are winter as I store mine in winter. As for rain I have had no issues except when I get in the rain with the car it usually leads to a full day of engine bay detailing after. I’ll post pictures for ya!

Universal hood small bonnets installed to draw air in. The factory center vent I wish was reversed to draw air in also.

I would not let water get into the engine compartment on a regular basis. Eventually something will corrode.

The 14-15 OEM hood vents come with a drip tray underneath that funnels the water towards the front of the car, you should be fine as long as you have the tray as well.

I wasn't planning on running the water deflector, but ya, corrosion is bad.
