Why is Z/28 more heralded that the SS?

I feel some on here need to purchase Netflix and watch what started it all......
The Z28 was the top of the heap in its date winning drag and road races.....
It got like the GTR is today where champion drag races were between two Z28's.....

Didn't the Vetts '69/'70 have the TRW dome forged pistons where the camaro had the flat top TRW forged pistons. This would bump up the compression to 11:1.

Also I'm not sure if it was stated or not... the Z28 was the build code name and the SS had a z27 build code. These were stamped on the cowl tag.

The 1970 Corvette HP small block was the LT1, same as in the 1970 1/2 Z-28. Both were identical 11:1 CR. After that CR's dropped to 9:1. Without going into exact specs, that can be easily looked up at nastyZ28.com (the best website to research early Camaro's, RPO's, specs etc..), '71 through '74 also shared the exact same 350 SHP engine configuration. The bottom ends were identical from '70-'74, only the heads, cam, intake and carb combination changed. '71 and '72 were the same as '70, but were 9:1 CR, '73 and '74 were 9:1 CR, but dropped the solid lifter cam, aluminum dual plane intake and Holley for a hydraulic cam, cast iron QJ intake and QJ carb. But each motor was identical (LT1 which changed to L82) for both. Replacement LT1 and L82 short blocks (only difference between the two was CR)and parts were available up to mid 1980's from the GM parts counter. The Z28 and Z27 RPO didn't initially show up on the cowl tag until after 1970 as I recall. My memory is growing foggier as I get older...but the website is a must read if you get a chance.

Maybe...but the Vette had "true" duals, while the Camaro was saddled with a single transverse dual-in/dual-out muffler, which no doubt ate some zip from the ZEE.

Lot of people here and in autoworld say the Camaro can't have more HP than the Vette,

I see here that even though engines were identical( in the 70 -74 cars), the Vette was rated higher. IIRC wasn't the highest rated ( or advertised HP) corvette 435HP

So if the Corvette had to have the highest HP how did the 70 Chevelle get away with its advertised 450HP in the LS6 454

The 435hp L71 427 '67-'69 Corvette was the "highest Factory-RATED" Corvette...but NOT the most powerful. "Ratings" and "actual" didn't always correlate. The L-88 and ZL-1 Corvettes were rated 430 hp...at something like 5200 rpm, well below their 6000+ power peak. And the L71 (also available with aluminum heads as option L89 in '69) was a Corvette-only option.

The '70 LS6 454-450hp engine offered in the Malibu was NOT offered in the Corvette.

The LS6 454-425hp Corvette engine of 1971 was essentially a lower compression L-88 with 27 more cubes.

In early '70 literature, mention was made of an LS7 Corvette engine, a 454" version of the high-comp L-88 rated at 460hp, but emissions issues meant it never made production...
