Blackbird

Project Blackbird

Overall goal: Show car with some track and drift time

Hello,

I started looking at other great builds here and decided to try my own. Blackbird is a 45th anniversary edition Camaro. I had been stalking the Camaro since it came out in 2010 and finally was able to pull the trigger late 2011 to buy mine. I picked the 45th because of the color and shortly afterwards named it the Blackbird.

Thanks for looking at my build!

Exterior:
  • Vertical Doors Inc hinges
  • APR Carbon Fiber splitter
  • APR Carbon Fiber GTC-200 wing
  • Front lip
  • Seibon BII Carbon Fiber hood
  • Herritage Grille painted red
  • Carbon Fiber rear splitter
  • Two-tone power coated 45th rims
  • Xenon side vents painted red/carbon flash
  • Removed Bowties and replaced rear with "BLACKBIRD" badges
  • Replaced "CAMARO" with "BLACKBIRD" fender badges
  • Carbon Fiber license plate
  • Limo tint
  • Plasti-dip tail and fog bezels

Interior:
  • Red dome light
  • Carbon Fiber door and dash trim
  • Custom designed ebrake solution for drifting

Suspension:
  • Hotchkis lowering springs
  • BMR front and rear sway bars

Performance:
  • Roto-Fab CAI
  • Texas Speed 2" long tube headers
  • Manganflow x-pipe
  • Muffler delete
  • Taylor 10.4 ThunderVolt inigion wires
  • Lingenfelter 160 t-stat
  • Custom Tune by J&R Performance in Phoenix, AZ
  • Vitesse Throttle Controller

Sitting on the show room floor, just waiting to be purchased

First mod was to get painted bowties from River City Creations.

Muffler delete was my first "performance" mod. Although it didn't add any performance it improved the sound dramatically.

After that I got a carbon fiber license plate cover as well as a custom carbon fiber rear diffuser

I loved the 45th rims as well, but wanted them to match my theme. So, for Fathers Day, my wife and kids picked this mod based on an early drawing I did of my "final" Camaro. They are two-toned powder coated red/black.

My kids love the Camaro so much I decided to create their own Mini-Blackbird.

After rims I wanted to open up more power on the v8. I installed the Roto-Fab CAI. Then took the Camaro to J&R Performance in Phoenix to install the Texas Speed headers, x-pipe and a few other mods. Followed by a custom tune.

I've always loved APR products and have used them on my previous rides. So I'd been waiting for years for them to come out with a wing for the Camaro. Once they had, I jumped on it and their splitter and the products are amazing.

After a day at the track I decided it was time to do some work with the suspension. I had already lowered it with Hotchkis lowering springs so my next mod was BMR sway bars.

I finally decided to re-badge the Camaro to Blackbird. These were custom made by Emblem Pros in the same font and came out great!

I also did the ABL dash kit, eventually I'm going to change the ABL to red but for now I matched the 45th ice blue. Great kit by gen5diy.

My latest mod was a red Herritage Grille.

Another day at the track I finally got the Blackbird dyno'd. Numbers turned out pretty decent. I have a few other exterior mods to do as well as some suspension, then will get back to power.

Had some rare snow in the desert, so snagged dome photos of it with the Camaro.

Installed vertical doors this weekend. Really like how they turned out! I've been wanting this mod for a long time on previous cars so was excited to finally get it.

I have to say...your ride is very unique. While it would not be the route I would go...your mods are tastefully done. Sometimes when I see mods like yours I cringe a little, but I found myself thinking "not bad" when I saw your pics. Keep it up!

Appreciate to comment! You either love big wings or you hate them. I've seen very few people in the middle. Haha.

I think your car looks awesome. Great choice of mods. I like the way that you gave your car your own twist. I personally don't care much of what others have to say about my car because ultimately I am the one that drives it and sees it everyday. Obviously I won't turn down the good comments though.

Thanks! I really enjoy having a theme.

Installed my painted Xenon vents today.

Also, last weekend I created a little mod that allows me to keep the button on the ebrake down so I can use it more easily to initiate drifts. This is only in when I'm drifting, otherwise the ebrake functions as normal and there is just a small hold on the side.

Great looking Camaro. This wing comment irritates me a little, especially since I've considered getting one in the future. I'd bet I would hear alot of the same reactions from people that don't understand, it serves a purpose! It's functional and helps the car to handle. I like the fact that you have a big wing on your car and use it!
