For example, if you told me "don't post anything potentially offensive in the workplace", I would take that to include profanity of any kind. Using profanity in the workplace is "not safe" for most people. I use that example, because in the new safe-for-work thread, the moderator that put the smack down on the previous NSFW content posted "good job guys" directly under a picture that contained the word "shit".

So when one says NSFW, that's why I say it's ambiguous. What a person views as NSFW is not the same as what everyone feels is NSFW.

I'm not saying that the NSFW thread didn't test, and sometimes surpass the line of what I would think is acceptable, but even then it a test of what I would think is an "err on the side of caution" line.

Anywho...

I do not define "ambiguous" as a double meaning here. I mean it as a cause for confusion. I just don't believe that it is so hard to figure out what is and what is not OK to post on this website. We do not have this problem in any other forum on C5 but this one. Why?

Because this is off-topic? Other than offensive language, what kind of content on the other sub-forums can really be NSFW? I mean, I assume your question is rhetorical, but I would suspect that being generally anything and everything not car related has something to do with it.

I shall not today attempt further to define the kinds of material I understand to be embraced within that shorthand description [hard-core pornography]; and perhaps I could never succeed in intelligibly doing so. But I know it when I see it.

The only problem I have with thread-deletions and shut-downs is that it drives away members. Members here are a commodity. We are sold to the vendors, that's why they pay for a vendor account. Very simple. If you wanna sell to Camaro5 you have to pay to play. If there were no members here then there would be no business as vendors wouldn't hold C5 accounts. Some of these threads that were deleted weren't just pictures of sexy, sexy ladies, many off them were long-time members getting to know one another. Think about fest. Do you go to fest and try to meet the person who posted a thread about what their license plate should say? Or did you meet people and talk about the thread they started about something meaningful to them? Off-topic forums are essential to many forums because your initial subject matter (in our case the car) can only stay fresh for so long. If you look at the post counts of the people in the off-topic area you'll see they've been here a while too. I'm not excusing any wrong doing that some members may or may not have done, and I believe that this place should be kept relatively clean, but some people got threads deleted that were FINE.

Bingo.

We don't post a pic of a girl in a G-string bending over next to a wheel that we want to ask a question about, in the Wheels and Tires section: our better judgment kicks in. But in the "off topic" section, we like to forget the same rules apply, and we have taken advantage of the lax moderation in this section. It was an entitlement of sorts and it has been taken away. Just like any entitlement that is taken away, we are now gnashing our teeth over how unfair it is.

I have to side with ChrisBlair on this one. NSFW isn't regulated by the person directly looking at it. It is determined by the person viewing the forum over their shoulder that can control the future of their employment to one degree or another.

If I surf Camaro5 on break at work I shouldn't have to worry it would jeopardize my livelihood. I even logged a complaint about 4 years ago because people were starting to put up avatars that definitely were not going to meet the standards expected where I work and they were posting in every active thread, making it impossible to view anything at work.

I think in the end the business reasons and sponsor's approval probably bit these threads in the arse but I is the owner's call.

Do you all go to C5 fests for the girls or the cars? There are cheaper places to go in life for the girls and easier places to review smut online, no matter what one's definition of that is.

I'm happy to have camaro5 for looking at and learning about Camaros.

It doesn't have to be everywhere and it's good it's not. But when you don't give a damn there should be a special place where damns aren't allowed. The sensitivity in this world is ****ing ridiculous! Sorry, fudging ridiculous.

The owner and moderators have all the rights they want to run and rule on anything posted. I don't have a problem with that. The Off Topic section was kind of like the "Man Cave", I could come in here, kick my shoes off, relax, enjoy some beautiful pictures, talk trash, joke around and have a little fun. I feel much of that has been 'over' moderated, and now I don't hang out on C5 as much as I used to. I kick my shoes off at another site and hangout. How many other members will be doing this or already doing this?

Only time will tell how this will impact the big picture of this forum.

Stop being so personally offended. If you are doing nothing wrong, then anything I've said does not affect you. I never understand why people on computers enjoy picking personal fights with one another. My fingers have the same size of muscles, so there is no win or lose. It's silliness.

Bottom line on this thread is: This site is privately owned. The rules are the rules. Enough with the crying "censorship" BS.

There is no reason to do so in the first place. Nothing prompted you to do it. That's not what the topic of that sub forum is. That topic is "Discuss issues related to wheels and tires". Better judgment has nothing to do with it.

People don't talk about weight lifting, video games, or their daughter's marriage there either. Because all of that stuff that have nothing to do with questions about tires, and nothing prompts them to share there. They share where they were directed to, which is in off-topic forum where the topic is "Discuss any off-topic subjects with other members."
