In my ZL1, I actually really like the steering feel. It's nice and easy as slow speeds, but firms up as you pick up speed. As far as your comments about diminshed road feel, I disagree. Maybe it's in the way the steering is designed, but the steering pretty much feels the same (at speed) as it did on my 2011 SS.

I would suggest that you try it out before you put it down, you might be pleansantly surprised.

With hydraulic power steering when your car breaks down, then the steering becomes hard as the engine is no longer running. With electric steering if you break down can you still have power steering as you push as long as you have battery power?

I don't think so. At least that's not the way it worked in my GTI. The pump probably draws too much power to be run when the engine is off--would drain the battery too quickly. But you can still steer when the car is off--there's just no power assist.

Correct, it's "electronic assist" not fully electronic powered. You can still steer should something happen. IMO that would be a death trap if you couldn't steer and I don't think car companies would be allowed to or want to do that to their customers.

Then you loose power steering?

You still have steering, it will just be manual.

The steering 'road feel' should not change at all if they are using an electric assist instead of the hydraulic one since there is still the same physical connection of the steering column to the wheels. This isnt drive by wire we're talking about here...

The mustang has 3 modes for steering that you can chose from on the 2013 models. Gee....what a nice idea along with the track apps.

Really????

I remember my Dad many moons ago bitching about power steering coming about and how it will be too hard to maintain control of a vehicle.

Had it on the 2011 Sonata I traded in for my freedom. Freedom from that POS's steering system (electric). Not saying it would be bad on the Camaro, but I would have to drive one before I bought one.
