I have an 04 Tacoma that has been great. My step-brothers drive it now as I don't have a need for it anymore and it has held up perfectly. I will buy another one in a couple years when I have the money for it. They are solid trucks and the only thing I have ever taken it in for is to get the regular fluid changes and to get new brakes put on.

Tacoma. Reliable. The Nissan feels extremely dated..

If those are the only two choices, I'd say Tacoma (probably the only time I'd every recommend a Toyota). Slim pickings these days in the small/mid-size truck category.

I'd get the Toyota, they hold their value really well and are well built.

Bought my Tacoma new in 99. Driven daily since new. 225,000 city miles now and running well. Power is down a little now. Did replace 2 starters, water pump, clutch master cylinder, catalitic converter and a few more minor things. It has served me well and has never left me stranded.

Tacoma without a question. A much better track record in regards to reliability.. Lots of options and aftermarket.. And imo they look better.
I'd rather bet on Toyota than Nissan to give me my money's worth and a reliable vehicle. For a bigger truck, I'd easily vote for the f-150. But for the size you're lookin at.. Tacoma is where it's at. Sorry no brand loyalty here. Quality over badges. |

They're both reliable. I owned a Frontier crew cab and it was the most reliable vehicle I ever owned. Had it for 3 years and not a single problem and this is coming from a perfectionist. The Tacoma is also just as reliable base on opinions from many friends and relatives who owned them. The Tacoma pre-runner crew cab seems to be roomier especially for the rear passengers. My next truck will be a Tacoma. You can't go wrong with either.

Yea, I think I may be leaning to the Nissan. I test drove both today and the Nissan had better get up and go and felt comfortable. The Toyota was nice but they had me drive a fully loaded double cab as they didn't have any access cabs. And while the Toyota has a better gauge cluster and center console I know that if they had the style I wanted it would have been an exact swap with the Frontier.
Additionally, the one Frontier I like they're offering for 5k below MSRP where as the Toyota isn't willing to play ball on price.

Yeah, Toyota very rarely have nice deals. The frontier does have the more outdoory look and sportier feel IMO. The only single thing I didn't like about it was the wind noise from the roof rack (if u can call it that) at freeway speeds. $5k below MSRP, you can't go wrong.
