Turbonetics CARB LEGAL

Hey guys, Do you know if Turbonetics or any other company makes a CARB legal turbo charger for the V6 (LFX) camaro? I know they make one for the SS that is 50 state legal.

Make sure it is just not a MAF tube carb cert that a compnay may use to represent an entire system is.

Some of these are appling for carb, from what I got from our air board is that stock air box cannot be modified.

Asked CARB a while back.

list of things you are not allowed to modify to stay emissions legal:
  1. Upper Plenum
  2. Lower Intake Manifold
  3. Fuel Injectors
  4. Fuel Rail
  5. Fuel Delivery System
  6. Fuel Pump
  7. Spark Plugs
  8. Spark Plug Wires
  9. Air intake (post MAF)
  10. Throttle Body
  11. EGR System (and hoses)
  12. Exhaust Manfiolds
  13. Exhaust (pre-catalytic converter)
  14. Anything in the Cylinder Heads (valves, springs, flow design)
  15. Pistons
  16. Camshaft
  17. Catalytic Converter (obvious)
  18. ECM/PCM Tune

And I think that's about it. Basically they told me (when I called and asked in 2004) anything related/connected to air delivery post-MAF, fuel delivery, or exhaust pre-cat, is off limits if you want to drive your car on the road in California.

So..yea. Unless it has an EO number and then its proven not to mess with emissions (according to California ARB).

These probably have changed; knowing CARB it'll be along the lines of "if you decide to repaint your car it'll make it illegal cause it'll increase drag co-efficient" or something like that (stupid California).

Wow, what a terrible state to live in for those that like to modify their cars.

So I went by the ARB website, here is a more complete list of the things they have EO#'s for in California:
  • Accessory/Crankshaft Pulley Modification
  • Air Bleed
  • Air Cleaner Modification
  • Air Conditioning Cut-Out System
  • Air Filter / Intake Modification
  • Air Flow Sensor
  • Anti-Theft System
  • Blowby Oil Separator
  • Camshaft
  • Carburetor / Carburetor Modification
  • Cylinder Head
  • Diesel Aftertreatment System
  • Distributor/ Distributor Modifications
  • EGR System Modification
  • Electronic Control Unit / PROMs/ECU Programmer
  • Electronic Engine Governor / Rev. Limiter
  • Electronic Shut-Off Systems
  • Electronic Valve Controller
  • Engine Brake
  • Engine Modification / Engine Change
  • Exhaust System / Exhaust Modification
  • Fuel Injection System / Fuel Injectors
  • Fuel Line Modification
  • Fuel System Modification
  • Fuel Tank System
  • Ignition Coil
  • Ignition System / Ignition System Modification
  • Intake / Exhaust System
  • Intake Manifold
  • Intercooler System
  • Nitrous System
  • non OBD II catalytic converter
  • OBD II Catalytic Converter
  • Off-vehicle charge capable conversion system
  • Oil Filter System
  • Particulate Trap System
  • PCV Modification
  • Rocker Arm
  • Supercharger System / Supercharger Modification
  • Throttle Body
  • Timing Control
  • Transmission / Transmission Modification
  • Trike Conversion Kit
  • Turbocharger System / Turbocharger Modification
  • Used OEM Catalytic Converters
  • Vacuum line/hose modification
  • Vapor Injection
  • Water Injector

Basically, if your vehicle (car/truck/boat/motorcycle) came with anything on that list and you want to replace it (and its not EXACTLY to the manufacturer's specifications) you need an EO #.

If your vehicle did not come with any of those and you want to ADD it to your vehicle, you need an EO#.

Or something like that. Kali sucks for cars. :(

edit: for those of you that want to know what goes into certifying a new vehicle or motor in California: http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/onroad/...dctp/ldctp.htm
