Beltronics RX45 (Escort qi45) Installed
Here are some shots of my Beltronics RX45 (exact same as the Escort qi45) remote radar detector install...
Antenna Reciever Display / Controller Remote LED I tried the Display / Controller in several different spots and did not like any of them... I like where it is now as it's easy to see / read and it's easy to power off the shifters after slowing down if you get nailed with laser... |

I'd like to see a picture of the front of the car that isn't so close. I'd kind of like to get an idea of how noticable this is.

It cant be seen unless you actually look at very close range into the grill area...

Was that it in the middle of the lower grille?
I guess being low doesn't have a negative impact on it's function?

Since it's low, it will have a slight impact on distance if you are cresting a hill... If you are in heavy traffic it could also have an issue where it can't see through the car in front of you... A windshield mounted detector *might* be able to see through cars in front of you through their windows.... Other than that, no real performance degradation to speak of... |

Are you going to be installing the Laser Shifter pack at some point?

I have the shifter pack.... Took them off when I went to visit a friend in Oklahoma and have not put them back on yet... They are illegal in Oklahoma and didn't want to risk it...

I will get them back on tomorrow and post more images... The shifters, on mine, are located next to the turn signals...

I would be curious to see the location. I heard they are very sensitive with regard to them being level.
How do you like the Shifters? Effectiveness? -Funk |

Yes they must be level... The manual says +/- 2 1/2 degrees in either direction... Mine mount by simply clipping onto the grill... There a 2 screws so to speak... One is to tighten the clamp to the grille and the other is to adjust the level...
I will snap a few photos of them before I put them back on, and then a few showing them mounted... They work amazingly well.... No complaints whatsoever from me.... |

Sorry for the delay in getting these up.... I remounted the shifters and decided to place them in a different location this time.... It will make for easier disconnect in the future and will fix the slight issue I was having with them in the upper grille area.... (the angle on the upper grill is so pronounced they always sat at a slight left to right angle)...

Went out this AM and tested my setup against an off duty friend... He used a Laser Atlanta (LIDAR) gun and a BEE III MPH gun against my setup...
I assumed I might have some issues due to the shifters being behind the grille (the farther forward the better) and because they are mounted low.. In my case low is not optimal because my state does not require a front tag... Laser shifters in the lower grille area: (as seen in the photo's in post #12) The results were a mixed bag.. I had no problem getting the BEE III at great range with the RX45 receiver... The Laser Atlanta beam was targeted to my headlight area, and the laser was successfully shifted to ONLY about 400 feet when the headlight was targeted (again, no front plate) We then rigged up a front plate (using wire and hung from the grille (lol) and again I had no problem picking up the BEE III at great distance.. This time (using the above placement of the shifters) he targeted the laser beam on the front plate... The laser was now successfully shifted all the way to zero feet... The moral of this story is that if you have a front plate, the placement of the shifters in the above post ( post # 12 ) will probably serve you best... Laser Shifters in upper grille area: (as seen in the photo's posted below) I moved the shifters into the upper grille area and I also decided at this time to move the RX45 receiver into the upper grille area as well.... The results were far better for shifting when the headlights are targeted (read: you do not have a front plate) and I also got greater distance from the RX45 receiver as well... With the shifters in the new location, and the laser beam targeted on my headlights, laser was successfully shifted to zero feet... With the front plate attached, and the laser beam targeting the front plate, the laser was shifted to about 100 feet... To recap: --If you have a front plate, the shifters are probably best positioned as shown in post 12 above.... --If you do not have a front plate, the shifters are probably best positioned as shown below in this post... I hope this helps some who are trying to decide laser shifter placement.. Front shifter placement on the Camaro is a tuff nut to crack due to the wrap and angle(s) of the front grille area... Not many options are available for the shifters to still function as needed... Make sure the shifters are level, that they have a good line of sight to the roadway and that they are clean of bugs and road debris... Last edited by raqball; 09-06-2010 at 06:09 PM. Thanks for posting the pictures and the mini review.
I was afraid that when installed they wouldn't be very stealth. Still on the fence about doing this or not. -Funk |
