For folks that have done the pulley upgrades

How many miles were on your ZL1 when you did the pulley change/& tune? Any issues arise down the road from doing this? Reason I ask is that I'm thinking about doing this soon to my new '15 with approx. 2500 miles on it. Just want to know how big a gamble it will be as I'll be at risk of voiding any warranty. I already have a Roto-Fab cai in.

Thanks

I am curious as well... the 5% pulley spins the sc 5% faster ? or does it drop the diameter 5% . How much wear on the SC does that create ?

My understanding is no question you void the warranty with the pulley. Lots of discussion on this subject. You'll get passionate arguments back and forth.

I am running the 2.5 Upper and the 9.10 on the lower. If you do anything bigger then a 5% on the lower, then you will need to get bigger injectors. My car had 9500 miles on it when I bought it and I started modding it not long after that. The Warranty is a tricky subject. It is going to depend on what if anything fails on the car. If it has to do with the S/C or the motor, most dealerships will flag your car in the system and then your powertrain warranty is no longer any good. If you know a dealer that is Mod friendly, you can still get stuff covered under the Warranty. If you change the pulley and get bigger injectors, then you'll have to put a tune on the car. once the ECM has been messed with, they can pretty much tell that you changed the car and you could loose your warranty. If your worried about that, then I would not really mod much on the car. There is one company that makes a "no tune" 75HP upgrade. That would be your best bet if you want to keep the warranty. If you do put a 5% OD pulley on the lower, keep the stock one in case you do have to have the engine looked at. It would be cheaper to have it put back on then it would if you have to eat the cost of a new engine.

I'm about to void my warranty as well, car has 4000 miles on it, I figure the car will have about 10k when the warranty expires... I think keeping the warranty depends on how much you daily drive the car really. 10k is almost nothing for cars these days... still makes me worry about something going wrong, all I hope for is its repairable and not have to get a full blown new motor because that's expensive

I had 74 miles on my car. I went with 2.4 Metco pulleys and a basic e-tune. Now, some mods down the road, I'm at 15 lbs. of boost.

I've been modding since before LS1s, but I base things on this technology. I appreciate learning how to get faster from guys like 2NASSTY , Da Truth, and 97Chameleon back in the day before we could just go buy sick cars and make them sicker. I've got an awesome shop and tuners, so we just do the thing. I've never had a problem with any combo I've done whether it be h/c, n20, or this s/c car.

I could be dead before my warranty ends, I gotta go ! Down here there are people throwing turbos on 5.0 Coyotes rolling off the truck... can't waste time. I would throw more power at it, but I REALLY enjoy my car just the way it is. Lingenfelter's 2.35 pulley is the only smaller upper pulley I have heard of. I've seen the chart of the overdrive ratios, but did not copy it.

I have not voided a warranty yet going back to my LT powered 93 Corvette. With that being said, I have seen so many people screw up, I know what not to do. ZL1 is so over built, you have lots of room to mod without destroying parts.

Being FAST and wanting a warranty is two different worlds. My service guys see my web site. As long as we are talking about anything BUT the motor or subsequent failures it may cause, everything else is still under warranty.

Once you screw with the e.c.m. you're done anyway IF they want (like James said). They have re-sold cars of mine with the tune still in them with warranty. They can do metallurgy tests and all kinds of things to tell when things were done and undone.

Exhaust and cold air is about all you can do with no questions raised.

2500 miles is when I added my JRE 125 kit.

At 4000 miles came the rest of the mods.

I added a 10% at about 7000 miles...no issues at all and best mod so far.

Tunes do NOT automatically void your warranty. I had a tune and have had my power steering and supercharger replaced under warranty.

pulleys on my car at 2500 miles and had no issues until I sold the car with 14000 miles and I put everything back to stock. A larger lower or a smaller upper increases the rpm of the blower thereby increasing the boost/airflow.

I waited a year before a did any mods to my car. I wanted to get the most out of it stock and then I figured with how hard I ran it that if there was going to be an issue that needed warranty work it would show up during the first year.

I started modding my ZL1 the first week I had it and am still at it. I'm at 50,000 miles and 700 1/4 mile passes and finally have an issue with my trans. I currently run a 2:55 upper pulley and a 9:55 lower and make just under 16 lbs of boost. Pulleys have been on for over a year.
