I was using the per barrel price I found on a quick internet search. Maybe your refining costs are much higher?

Per Bbl price isnt the best way to look at things, as gravity of the oil alters the profit margin of the bbl cost as the cost of refining 19 gravity oil is different than the price of refining 75 gravity oil

Good point about added transportation costs.

According to Road & Track, PA has the highest per gallon tax in the US at 51.8 cents. It's still only $3.499 for 93 octane at Shell yesterday.

Stations will jump on any opportunity to raise prices. Your only realistic options are driving less, and / or spending less on other shit in the meantime.

If most of the country did the latter, you'd probably see prices drop quicker after such surges, but that's a different topic.

My cousin used to own a gas station and had an award year after year for over 1,000,000 gallons sold.

He jumped on every opportunity to lower the price. Raising the price always made him crabby. People will cut back on their driving.

Actually prices don't drop as the added cost of transporting goods tends to get passed on to the customers, and/or the companies reduce production and cut labor costs. Prices go up on basic need items that people have to buy, and production gets cut on discretionary items that people can live without, meaning lay-offs.
