Kids ?!?!?!

Hey guys, my son opened the other car door and hit the ZL1. It took off a little paint and put a noticable ding in the panel. Is it worth getting repaired? My deductible is $500. Thoughts?

A good PDR guy should be able to get the ding from the inside, than you can decide on the Paint, if touchup is good enough. Remember insurance claim normally means bad carfax and bad resale value.

I’d go the PDR route using someone who can guarantee they can remove the dent. It should cost less than $100. I don’t use my insurance company unless I can’t afford to pay out of pocket. Some of the paint damage might come out with polishing. It may not all be removeable, but there’s no way I’d take it to a body shop and have the door painted.

Have the kid mow the lawn the rest of the summer to work it off.

Insurance doesn't report to carfax, but yeah that doesn't look like something I would claim

Man I didn't realize it was that inexpensive. I will go that route for sure.

I definitely would make him cut the grass but he's 3

Unless they have a non disclosure agreement they can sell information to carfax. Just like the body shops. It’s really hard to know. I had a similar situation with a minor bumper repair and although no one will admit how the info got there it’s on my report, so just try to warn everyone to be careful.

Some body shops do though. Best bet is to not let them put your VIN on the paperwork

Make the kids stare at the dent for a minimum of 4 hours. Add +1 hour for each time they look away. It won't fix it, but they sure the hell won't go near the car again.

I’ve been pretty impressed with the work our paintless dent guy does. That one looks like it might not become totally invisible, but I’d give it a shot.

Sometimes they need to drill holes to access certain areas, so I’d be mindful of that. Sometimes it comes down to a visible ding vs a hidden/plugged hole in the body. You may want to ask how he plans to access it.

Like already stated, definitely try the PDR route first.

While washing my car one afternoon I changed over from the foam gun to a regular spray nozzle on my pressure washer. Like a rookie I didn’t do a test spray away from the car when I squeezed the handle on the pressure washer. The tip wasn’t fully seated in the quick connect and shot out like a bullet...right at my door. It left a beautiful nozzle shaped oval in the door.

PDR guy removed it 100% with a hot glue gun type setup. It was hard to watch but the result was amazing. $75

Just make sure your PDR guy didn’t start yesterday. The one I called had been doing it for 20 years. That stuff is an art.
