At what point is a larger alternator necessary?

Wondering if anyone has run into the "limit" yet and what that was.

I'm running:

-a ton of RGB LEDs, with more on the way.
-additional xenon projector fogs.
-(future) 2x 15" subs + speaker / amplifier upgrades + 2x 8" subs.
-And lots of other stuff I'm cooking up.

I know I'm well inside the "safe zone" for now, but I haven't heard of anyone upgrading the alternator on here yet so it must not be much of an issue?

Thanks in advance for any advice you have! (Btw mine's the V8, if there's a difference).

the lights wont matter. depending on how big the amp is, how loud you have it, you may have an issue, but doubt it.

the factory alternator is 150amps, so you should be able to figure out how much you are taxing the alternator. I doubt more than 65-70%.

Leds draw very little, and think your new fogs wouldnt be that much over the stock ones.

You'll be alright.
With that sound System you want you should need a stronger battery like a Kinetik KHC2000.
Led Lights draw less power.

Great! Thanks for the advice. Has anyone ever done a dual-battery setup on here?

Pfft ya man your draw is a lot higher that your output. What the rms of the subs alone? Is get that HO alt asap. You'd probly notice an increase in audio quality too.

When you can see lights dimming and the voltage meter dipping, time for a HO alternator. Or do the math. If lights aren't dimming you should be good though. Best thing is when you fire up the 15s make sure to wire the amp with the proper gauge wire. I used 1/0 to a distribution block and 4GA to each amp. Very short runs. Make sure the ground is same gauge as power supply.

Run a good quality capacitor on your amp and it won't tax the car's electrical system as much,

150 amps is huge. When I put twin 900 watt amps in my 1970 Chev 4x4, they had me upgrade to a 105 amp and I was good.

I am running 2 12" subs with 1100 watts RMS to each and I have no problem while the car is running.
