Tires......who knew....
Hi folks,
So long story short I have always ran Nitto Invos on the ride and they did very well, no track days on them only street race and such. I recently however have upgraded to a more aggressive cam, new performance heads and an intake mani and after the tune should be at or slightly above the 500 mark. Based on my findings I saw the R888 were the way to go but when I look on the site there is no 20" option? Can someone chime in and if perhaps there is something even better I would love to hear it. |

Little more back log now that I am some more free time. My current setup is 275/40/20 in the front with TSW Nurburgrings and 315/35/20 in the rear also with Nurbs. I am currently trying to see if this setup is still the most optimal or I will need to change it based on some new tires.
Nitto NT555R only comes in 275/305 for 20" application Nitto NT05R only comes in 315 (perhaps put 05R in read and a different tire in front?) R888 only has 19 as the highest size MT ET Street S/S only comes in 275/305 for 20" application Is 275/305 just better than 315? Based on this chart it looks like going with 275/305 would have the front at 28.7 and the rear 28.4? I am no tire expert so is that fine? |

Nitto sizes are bubble to bubble not tread width. So a Nitto 315 is really the same as everybody else 305. Not to mention, you are stressing about 10mm, that's about 1/3".

Gotcha, and as for the diameter difference? 28/7 to 28.4 ? Again, no tire expert so sorry if that is a dumb question lol

If grip is what you seek my friend why did you stop at the R888 and not go the full length into the R888R? What someone mentioned is true, the Proxes ST line is narrower than other manufacturers same tire size; grip is not just about size but rather about compound used in a specific tire. Wider tires sure look more aggresive but it means diddly squat if you are settling for a harder compound because of durability or price just to end up sacrificing what you were after to begin with. As for not knowing; manufacturers now have training videos on their sites that can help you IF you want to learn, they even teach you the adjustment process and qualification for warranty. I've got 275/40/20 front and 305/35/20 nitto 555r on the rears. Supreme traction. Highly recommend the nittos.

315 35 20 are too tall. Id stay away from that. I lost traction and handling with this size. Not much to be gained overall on the streets with the width, compare to the compound itself.
I used 315 35 17 Toyo TQ DRs,on Forgestar, and they were great!! They are not agressive enough for drag racing but they get the jog done for sure and you still have handling too. When I went back to original 285 35 20 size and it handles better& more traction plus the car accelerates faster. Gforce comp as2. I went down to a 285 35 19 and the size is just perfect IMO; handles like its on rails and drives a lot better. Ill never go back to a 20inch wheel..
