🤬 Can somebody please explain to me how it is that my car now sounds like a @&$%!# Volkswagen?? 😇

On my way back to the shop to have an x-pipe installed and resonators deleted. While I’m there I’m going to have put my stock mufflers back on. The last thing I’m trying to do is amplify that horrific sound!

I tried googling “Drone Masters” to no avail. What is that?
It’s not the drone that bothers me (at least at this point), it’s when I hit the gas. It’s absolutely pathetic and downright nauseating tbh.

It sounds okay at start-up sometimes. Idk about you guys, but the sound my Camaro makes at start-up is NEVER predictable lol.

I’m not thrilled about the idle. It’s a little louder at idle, similar to its stock cold idle, only now it reminds me a little of those idiots that buy some wimpy truck and then try to compensate by swapping the muffler -sounds stupid af. The difference between myself and the dummies I’m referring to is that I want my car to sound badass bc it IS badass! Lol.

Just switching mufflers always sounds weird imo. Long tubes and new pipes throughout makes all the difference

Those two clips sound pretty similar. I think an X will make it sound worse, but report back after it's installed.

Ok x-pipe installed...resonators deleted. Sounds amazing at start-up. Idles too loud, still ZERO sound when I hit the gas and NOW I have a drone problem. I told them to leave the super 44’s on bc I was thinking about swapping them with super 40’s and don’t want to pay to have my mufflers removed more times than necessary. I may have them J-pipe it to decrease drone as well. If that all fails it’s going back to stock.

All I want is some noise when I hit the gas....that’s literally it! I don’t want all this other noise (loud idle, drone, etc.). I want the noise where it counts. Everything else is all bark IMO. Any ideas?

The resonator is the big noise killer, and a lot of dead weight, on our L99’s. When I did my axle back, I still had my resonator. I cut off the pipes and started it with no mufflers and it wasn’t much louder. An “X” or “H” in place of the resonator will make more of a difference than mufflers. I installed the stainless resonator delete x-pipe from summit racing. If you still have active fuel management, you may want to tune it out or use a disabler so you don’t get the 4 cylinder helicopter sound through your exhaust. Hope this helps.

X-pipe...

On a different note, I added long tubes and high flow cats afterward, which made a HUGE difference in sound. With my legato axle back, LT’s, HF cats, and X-pipe, I have no drone at any rpm, it’s mild when cruising and very loud when wide open.

lol, "Drone Masters" is the nick name given to all the Flow Master mufflers because the all DRONE !! Some worse than others. I have the Flow Master 3inch ZL1 Outlaw quad catback and it is nasty sounding with the cam, LT's and off road mids, but drones like hell!! But I'm used to it now.

Thanks for the advice!! I’ll do some research and then I’ll probably have some questions for you.

I put on a ZL1 Flowmaster Outlaw system on my car and took it off after a 1 mile drive in the car. I droned and vibrated everything in the car and it was a joke. Not sure what series mufflers they were but it was obnoxious. At the end of the day you have to put on what you like

Get rid of those resonators and you will be happy. I have long tubes, hi-flow cats, an Flowmaster American thunder cat-back. It sounds awesome.
