Under Coating

Hello everyone. New Camaro owner here in Michigan.

Have a 2015 Camaro V6 with 700 miles on it. I am planning on driving this car year round and want to make sure I am doing the right things to make it last.

Have already had a permanent wax like paint glaze applied to help keep the paint protected.

I am now considering having Ziebart fully undercoat the car, doors, etc. for $500.

Im hoping some of you could give your honest opinion on whether or not this is a good idea. At this time, I am planning on owning this car for a long time and again - want to take care of it and do my best to keep it looking good the entire time.

Is this a good idea or do I roll the dice and see what happens in five years?

Thanks.

Congrats on your new ride! Do the undercoating I don't drive the car in the winter and you can see surface rust in some areas under the car.

I am not a fan of undercoating/rustproofing. I have seen on more than one occasion where the undercoating gets chipped or scratched, then water gets in and trapped under it and corrodes the metal. Usually you don't see it till it is in advanced stages of corrosion. These days most manufacturers have pretty good corrosion protection from the factory. Just my 2 cents worth

For what it's worth... I have a 2001 Chevy P/U. I had it undercoated when new. It is a daily driver in the Northern Ohio snow & salted roads. After 14-1/2 years, no rust. It does get garaged every night.

Appreciate everyone's input. At this time I have decided not to get the undercoat.

It has been and will continue to be garaged every night. Im also the type who will at least power wash off body, wheel wells, rockers year round when the temperature is above freezing. Hopefully the factory galvanizing and other anti corrosion measures will prove to be enough down the road.
