I am not %100 sure if this is the right place to post this but with all the recent discussions about snow/winter tires watching this made me question whether some of those vehicles could avoid the accident with proper snow tires. There are other factors like visibility and also the ridiculous amount of snow on the road but maybe if people were not driving as fast and had proper tires there would be less injuries.

true. Also drivers need to comprehend the importance of driving at controlled speeds in treacherous weather conditions. Proper eye lead time as used by UPS. Visibility ahead and looking way ahead to determine your speed. If you don't have visibility for that 12+ seconds of distance then drive at 5mph if you have to.

That's crazy. Some of them seem to be driving too fast for those conditions.

wow. Oh my God! That was just horrible. There seem to be a lot more pileups in recent years. People need to be more cautious.

Oh Wow! That is terrifying!

Not sure if it was good advice to tell people to get out of the cars.
(Usually not supposed to be move people from a wreck unless there is an emergency like fire)

But then again, they are sitting ducks sitting in the cars getting rear ended by semi's going 65mph!

Seems like the drivers could not see the crash stacking up until it was too late to stop.
This means they were going to fast for the conditions/visibility or the road conditions suddenly changed in that area or both.

Maybe somebody in the opposite lane of traffic could have driven ahead and been flashing their lights and honking the horn to warn the drivers to start slowing down?

The problem was with squalls that were coming through the area, 3 miles visibility to 0 in seconds, by the time people reacted it was too late. You can't expect people to drive 5mph on the highway in the chance that a whiteout will occur.
