Catch me if you can
|
I placed my order last Monday, The dealer had to do a call in order to complete it. I just got a copy of the build order last night.
I'm just getting the basics. 1SS, Inferno Orange, RS package. Dealer estimates delivery sometime around late Jan, early Feb. |

I think someone is trying to describe allocation and constraints. I can tell you for certain the the SS's ordered this week will all be 2010 models. The SS production is still less than 100%, but they are still building them. Model year change won't be til summer some time.

They are only up in the 50,000 production mark. My vin is 52396 and it was built 10/2009. Don't they share some production w/ the corvette for the ls3? That could also hold things back if they use the same engine plant!
**OOPS*** Sorry missed that last post. Well they were at the 50K mark in Oct, hows that. |

Your math doesn't add up. Let's just take the six months from January through June (Nov and Dec will be used as holiday days). There are about 150 production days left. Building 480 cars per day equals 72,000 cars possibly being built. Now there will probably be some parts shortages that will drop that number somewhat, but nowhere near the 19,000 you quote. Maybe 55,000 to 60,000. Line changes for existing models (no die changes) usually take no time at all, but they will close the plant for two weeks probably around July 1 (Canada Day) to do the change over with 2011 models being produced the 3rd or 4th week of July and on lots in late August. |

Car #65513 was built and shipped the 11/10 So I'll start the math from the 11th Rounding up let's say 72 *Production Days*
Wednesday (11/11) Thursday (11/12) Friday (11/13) Saturday (11/14) - 4 days Monday (11/16) - 10 days Monday (11/23) - 16 days Monday (11/30) - 22 days Monday (12/07) -28 days Monday (12/14) - 34 days Monday (12/21) - 40 days Monday (12/28) - 46 days Monday (1/4) - 52 days Monday (1/11) - 58 days Monday (1/18) - 64 days Monday (1/25) - 70 days Tuesday (1/26 - 71 days Wednesday (1/27) - 72 days That's with 100,000 cars being built, lets say 10 days off (work days) for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years. Monday (2/9) - 68 days Tuesday (2/10) - 69 days Wednesday (2/11) - 70 days Thursday (2/12) - 71 days Friday (2/13) - 72 days So with that being said lets say a week to ship it (maybe a bit more) at the LATEST the last car should arrive at the dealership (that's estimating that they're only building 100,000 cars) by the end of February sometime, which seems to early to me.

Hey carguy why are you bailing? because it's been proven that your "source" is mathematically wrong? Lets think about this for a minute. Canada has already taken their thanksgiving break weeks ago and they do not get their Christmas break until the 1st week of January. The 19,000 preordered cars WILL be built before the end of December easily.
The 2011 model change over is not until the 1st week of July and they do not stop taking orders until mid May - first of June. This is how it has ALWAYS been and it WILL NOT be any different for the Camaro and sure as hell won't be different for the SS. So what you pretty much are saying is that "hey guys my moron for a source says that for 5 months after all of the current sold orders are filled you will not be able to buy a SS, which is the hottest car in North America and I'm stupid enough to believe him. But don't worry they will still be making the other trims." Next time before you go making a doom and gloom post get your facts straight and while your at, the next time your "inside source" tries to tell you something, DON'T LISTEN TO HIM. How does that saying go? It's best to keep your mouth shut and let people think you are a moron then open it and prove them correct. |

I think what he may be saying is that there are 19000 sold v8's in the system. If you have to build X# of v6 cars compared to V8 cars, all of the v8 cars may be allocated for production 2010 models. Coupled with the production of the engine t support the vette, the system may not be set up to build any more orders for 2010 v8's until 2011 model initiates. All the possible production of 2010 V8 builds may currently be allocated.

Here we go again.
Some Dealer who is an Idiot tells some "friend" what he thinks is happening and could not be more wrong. OP rushes on here to proclaim the facts with assurances that source is solid. Poster gets flamed by others who call BS and poster says " only conversation" after a few hundred have read it and tell EVERYONE they know it must be true.! Conversations about what was to be back in 07 or 08 are worthless. The projections were based on the way the car business was then..... It is a whole new world now. The 2010 CAMARO will be in available for 2009 and more than 1/2 of 2010. Find the right dealer and get what you want.

my $.02 is this the ss was going to be the top of the line. now to keep the ss owners happy they are probably slowing production of the 2ss because that is what is selling the most compared to the other models. maybe GM was thinking the v6 was going to sell alot instead of the v8 . also GM released the camaro in 2009 as a 2010 model so they can produce the car longer and see how it does. no one know what is going to sell and what is not.
