Only if your building an offroad racer. Will void your engine warranty and it not street legal.
It's a bad idea for a new car. |

Never had one personally.
As with all exhaust cutouts they are subject to local laws... I know here they are not illegal as long as the are manually operated, i.e. not vacuum or electronically controled. As for sound, depending on where they are placed, they sounds like open exhaust. If you will be racing they are fine, although with newer cars with little to no mods, they might actually hurt performance. For the 99% of the time you aren't at the track, I would stick with an aftermarket catback. |

cops around here would write you up in a heartbeat. According to the law any modification to the exhaust system is illegal

GM has addressed lot of the bottlenecks with emissions. Both engines would not have good HP without a good flowing intake and exhaust. It's not a performance bottleneck like it was back in the day.

Once again, the only problem with these is the possibility of the motor getting burnt out and issues with it sealing properly when closed.
The main problem is that the driver has no way to tell when the butterfly is closed and will continue to hold the switch in the 'Close' position even after the butterfly has made contact, thus overloading the electric motor. They work great for a while, but eventually they will burn out unless they have an automatic sensor that stops the current when the valve is closed. I think either going with a regular cutout with the wing nuts or a cable operated version is a little more reliable...(or maybe making a setup like they have on the Vette using the GM parts)

I can speak with experience.
I have electric cutouts on my '67 Camaro. The style you are listing has it share of sticking problems. Over time, You'll find you will find that you have to work them by hand while opening and shuting them repeatly with the button to un-stick them. The butterfly style just seems to build up carbon real bad. Sometimes only one side will open (or close) and you won't like the sound of that! If your going to get them, then spend the extra money and get the "DOUGS". They are built to last much longer. You will enjoy them much better than "any others out there", because they are built with a "Rack and pinion drive mechanism". Be prepared for the price though! This is a much better performing set. Follow the link below for a set of "Doug's 304 Stainless Steel Electric Exhaust Cutouts". http://www.jegs.com/p/Doug%27s+Headers/759640/10002/-1

Which brand is it that closes the opening to the tailpipes at the same time it opens the cutout? It also can be dialed in to partial openings. I read it somewhere on these posts but did not write down the name of the manufacturer.
