He said he is going to his credit union this evening. I've never sold a car before so I'm not to clear on the process. I better start researching.

you can just do up an informal bill of sale, put your names and the price on it, both sign, and sign your title to him...pretty much it, if i recall

I don't have the title yet. The car isn't paid off. They car is worth 12k trade in, I owe less than 8k. I was going to use the difference for part of the down payment.

I'm not sure we have a tax right off for trade ins here in California? Is it a federal or state thing?
