TPMS ... do you need to have it?
I am looking at getting snow tires with different rims for the winter.I have read a couple of threads saying that it is ok to not order the TPMS but i have also read a few that say you must get the sensors or the car may not start. Can someone set me straight?I am looking at getting 18" rims from tire rack with the pirelli tires.I have a RS.Thanks ahead of time.

yeah because TireRack wants like $65 for each TPS... we can get them much cheaper than that.

Just put my winter tires on WITHOUT the sensors. All that happens is a message comes on the DIC saying the TPMS needs service...just flick the dial and it goes away. The light will remain on inside your spedometer though. Still drives and operates completely normal.
Hope this helps!

you do not need to have the TPMS in for the car to start. thats dumb. i had my wheels on my car and one of the sensors was not working and it was fine. you do not have to have them. only need them if you want to be able to display the pressure inside the car. ebay is where i got mine. i think i paid 40 bucks for 4 sensors. gm brand . brand new. you have to pay to get them calibrated too.
