i dont really understand, was it just the form in which we saw it(the order list),that everyone is so angry with, because we already knew everything that was on there?

It's a rather sad day when someone loses their job over something like this. I understand the employer's decision to eliminate them, based on a trust issue.

I worked at a Chevrolet dealer, in the parts department when I was 16 (20 years ago). One night after work I saw that we had a Monte Carlo in our used car lot that had center caps that I wanted for my Monte Carlo. I came back later that night after dark into our own used car lot and stole them.

I headed back home with them, only to end up turning back around, feeling guilty about what I had done. I went back and replaced the caps within about 10 minutes, and then went home.

10 minutes later, the police showed up at my door. Apparently a witness saw me steal the caps, and got my license plate. I explained to the police that I did take them, but I did go and put them back. They confirmed this, and no charges were filed.

However, the dealer was notified by the police of my night activity, including replacing the caps, but they lost trust in me, and fired me.

I don't blame them one bit, and I regret ever doing that. I learned from my mistake. I hope this dealer employee learns from his too.

I work at a fairly large financial institution ... if something like this was to happen, it would be investigated and those involved would be fired ..

Are you sure that GM didn't have anything to do with my firing Scott? Not exactly the message that I got. My manager is one of my best friends. 2 grown men were in tears in his office yesterday, and in his words, there was nothing that he could do. GM was pissed and wanted someones head for releasing a stupid document with info that was already public knowledge to anyone who wanted to do some research.

I didn't see our GM rep get fired. He is the one that sent the email with the info that I "wasn't supposed to have yet" as you put it. That was the info that was in my 1st post. It didn't say confidential anywhere Scott. That was the info that you didn't want released, and no one here caught it. The PDF file was saved, but not the 1st post. He told us a week before 0% came out a few months ago to "start spreading the news", same with employee pricing.

I spread the news Scott. I was doing my JOB. Trying to help build interest in a GM product. I work, let me re-phrase that, worked, in the internet department. I use the internet as a tool to sell cars.

Are you going to go on a headhunt and have every salesmen who give this info to their customers fired? THOUSANDS of salesmen are relaying this info to their customers. I saw numerous salesmen print off the document to show customers today at the dealership! My customers come from the internet.

I screwed up. I am the 1st to admit it. When I realized that I did, I deleted it and even sent you a PM about it. It could have ended there. Instead, a witch hunt ensued and I was let go. This is a stupid car! I didn't endanger anyones life, I didn't risk National Security. I was in the Air Force, I know what Confidential means. Does our GM rep? Was it Confidential that GM was going to release Employee Pricing? Yep. Were we told to let all of our customers know a week before. Yep. We, oops, they, even wrote up deals based on E.P. You can check the sales log if you want. Was it Confidential that GM was going to have 0% financing 3 or 4 months ago? Yep, but we had it posted on our giant casino style billboard the day before it was released to the public!

Don't worry Scott, I'll find another way to feed my 3 kids. But it sure as hell won't be working for GM. You ruined a family yesterday. Over a car. A hunk of medal with 4 tires that is used to get someone from point a to point b. (granted, with this car you will get there in style and as fast as you want)

I'm sure that I will get banned for posting anything negative about Scott on this site, I'm sure he is a swell guy in real life. And maybe this is all sour grapes and I"ll regret posting it later. But what are you going to do? Fire me? Again?
