This F-Type

Had business in Gilbert AZ this week, so I decided to drive this time instead of fly. Typically, if I have to be somewhere within 6hrs, I prefer driving.

Now, normally I take the Camaro everywhere I go... but at 155.5k, I'm starting to be a bit more cautious in bringing it along on these long trips for work. Thusly, I rented a vehicle from Avis out of Ontario Int'l Airport and the only car available in my class was a Jaguar F-Type V6 Supercharged. I was like, wtf? Ok... typically, I get Mustangs or Chargers... never something like a Jag.

This Car felt very much like a 6th Gen SS, as in how light it feels, the suspension, the power. The 6th gen did have a firmer suspension. I believe this Jag was the V6 Supercharged version. The car effortlessly got up to 80+ and beyond, and cruising down I10 fro and back across the AZ/CA deserts it got lots of looks. Its one of those rides you don't see every day for sure and people were respecting it, moving over as I approached... very much like in my Camaro.

In comparison with my Camaro, I did notice that the Suspension needs to be tightened up. The car did feel 'front heavy', and was sort of all over the lane - with me micro-correcting to keep it straight. My heavier Camaro, with its upgraded suspension, feels like its on rails. This car not so much.

I spent 10+ intimate hours with it and liked it for the most part. But I STILL like the Camaro more believe it or not lol. Three Things in my eyes makes my car better - even with the amount of mileage I have.

1. More Solid Suspension, as mentioned - mine's on Rails... I swear. Mine's heavier, but I feel it works for my benefit...

2. Exhaust note - weak sounding exhaust system on the F-Type.

3. Power... although very quick, after I dropped it off and got back in my Camaro (parked at the Airport), my car still felt more nimble and quicker.

Looks? Well, as you can see for yourself, its a looker... very pretty ride. Prettier than my ride? Hard to say... just a different kind of pretty, per say lol.

Not sure I would ever buy one if I could afford one. I'd probably go Vette rather than this if I had the choice. But overall, not a bad cruiser and it was definitely a fun ride.

Here's the eye candy.

For not being a GM, they are pretty good looking cars. The price is what kills it. The turbo'ed 4 (~300hp RWD) is more than a C7 Stingray. The lower-tiered supercharged V6 (~340hp RWD) puts you in the GS's price range. The higher-tiered SC'd V6 (~380hp RWD) puts you in GS or even Z06 territory. Then, the SC'd V8 (~550-575hp AWD), puts you in Z06 or even ZR1 territory.

Cool cars, but you can get much more, for less.

The back small lid with the Jaguar Insignia raised up at speed to act like a spoiler. It was high enough that I could see it through my rear view mirror (the insignia was upside down), and for a few miles there I thought the trunk lid was open lol.

Very cool. I think the current F-Type coupe is one of the most beautiful designs ever. Everything about it looks so smooth. To me, that's what the Corvette should have looked like.

What a nice review and SS comparison. My sister has a leased F, it is a nice ride.
As you mentioned, people treat you differently when you arrive in one.

The SS is "me"...like an extension of my personality.
However, a lot of folks give me that "look" when I pull up in the SS...
Especially at my age....like I'm midlife crisising...

Gorgeous design for sure, just don't ask what the resale depreciation is like. One of the worst out there.

Nice looking car. I bought my ZL1 from a Jaguar dealership in Chicago. I guess the previous owner was trading up? I don't think so.

Seeing as how I found it at a Jaguar dealership the wife and I like to say we rescued it.

The Jaguar brand is listed as the least reliable brand. Most problems per 100 vehicles. Not much has changed over the years. They are still a highly desirable, but unreliable car.

Beautiful car! I didn't know they rent those things out. lol! My uncle had an early 2000's XK8 convertible and it was a really nice looking car. The car drove very smooth and with the Mercedes sourced 5sp auto, it shifted like butter.

Front end has a little bit of 4th gen in the front; rear flanks a bit of the 5th. Put some Camaro emblems on it and call it a 7th Gen! People would believe that.

Good friend of mine in the UK bought a Mustang GT350 stick from the Military Auto sales here - He loved it, even went an 8:33 on the Nurburg ring in traffic. About 7 months later he totaled it in an accident. He then bought a BMW M4 as he didn't want to wait for another GT350. He said it was a very fast car but it had no soul and he hated driving it.
