cold air intake

Ok so i dont know about all you but i was sick of seeing brand name cai for sale for like 300 and up to 700 so i set off on a mission to see if i could do it for under 100 so i went to pep boys and looked around and grabbed a few thing that looked like they would work went back home and about an hour and a couple of beers later this is what i have at first i was thinking this was going to be all kinds of screwed up but the end product looks to me pretty damn good tell me what you think

It "looks ok," but how does it work? Did you connect the electrical stuff back up? Do you think you'll gain HP?

Looks really good, but you are gonna have to do something to decrease the heat soak. That thing is gonna suck in some major hot air.

Maybe relocate the washer bottle, and snake the filter lower. Whatever happens, I applaud your effort. Looks damn good.

In the first pic it is at the 7:00 position. If the pipe was a clock, the MAF would be sitting on the seven.
Scrming tried to fab one early on doing the same thing, basically. Well, I guess he did fab one up however the dyno results disapointed him. He had a vid posted with it revving. Looked decent too. Not comparing it to the one he had with the 100 MPH tape on it and a soda bottle patch either.

My question then is...Would it not be better to use factory airbox and a aftermarket cone filter inside? Keep the heat away.
Cause is seems no matter were you put the filter it will suck in hot air....Lower it will pick it up from the ground and inside engine bay it will take it in from there.
Just wondering.

You can't use a cone filter with the stock airbox unless you did some modifiations. The air that is picked up lower is Much cooler than engine bay air.
