Battery Replacement - going smaller

so i think my battery is still the original and its starting to show its age a bit with the recent cold snap to single digits. i want to replace it, but i'm not sticking another 52 pound lump of battery in my trunk. i'm going to replace with this and see how it goes:

i'm worried about the CCA's of the new battery vs the old one but i'll give it a shot to save 23 pounds. i'll update this after i get it tomorrow. i'll also save nearly $100 going this route.

until then, are there any potential issues that i may have not considered? i think the stock mount will work, new battery is .5" taller than original.

Edit: went with a C6 Z06 battery. Original battery weight was 45 pounds and the new was 35 for a nice flat 10 pound loss. Also removed the inflator and foam thing for another 5 pounds. New battery has 650cca vs 765cca for the old.

Yes keep us posted, replaced the battery twice and I hate the weight of the stock battery, plus I do not drive mine often and not in 6 weeks. So the battery gets discharged easily.

You made a very good choice going with the AGM battery, that battery is made by east penn who manufactures for several different brands including the die hard AGM and so many more. I have this grp 94 battery in all of my cars under the Sears diehard brand.

Wow, that's 225 less CCAs than eom. I'd be concerned.

The 2nd AGM duracell should be fine. the one OPlisted id be concerned with also

OP I would not sacrifice CCA to save 23#s. These power hungry cars have a lot of electronics and you may have to replace it much sooner. Go with an AGM!

Went with a battery from a C6 Z06. Bathroom scale showed 35 pounds for the new one and the one I took out was 45 so my original math was wrong. 650cca for the new battery and the old was 765cca so not a bad loss. Also tossed the inflator and foam thing for another 5 pounds. Started the car just fine

Car sat overnight with temps hitting single digits and it started just fine this morning in the teens

Did some of that today while shopping and it was fine.

Really guys we have a huge battery, I would go to say too big for our cars. Corvettes get away with a smaller battery than ours yet have the same drivetrain and similar tech. Why? Easy way to reduce weight with this mod.

Also, I'm running a 10% underdrive pulley.

I in fact believe the battery and it's weight and placement was deliberate...boat load of weight upfront and in order to achieve closer to the magic 50/50 and make it a better handling vehicle...his battery choice is based on 1/4 mi vs track and should prove to be fine as long as the charging system works properly...see ya at the track OP!

a little update: car seems to start better with this new battery. i think the old one was more dead than i had thought. I can tell the battery is holding a charge better as the voltage gauge sits right on the 12v mark when the car is on, but engine not running. the old battery would sit lower than 12v in the same situation.

with the engine running, the gauge sweeps between 12v and the next mark (15v i think). this is all on the RS gauge pack. seems normal to me.

dunno if i feel the difference from weight loss. it does all add up at the end of the day so i highly recommend this 'mod' for anyone who needs a new battery. i am not suggesting that this battery will work in all climates, but thus far it works down to single digits for me. next time i'll go for a braille battery and remove some more weight.
