Richmond Gear Howling

Hello.

I'm getting a howling sound from my drive train rear when ever I accelerate or decelerate at cruising speeds. I'm not sure if this has been going on long but I'm pretty anal with my car and it's sounds so I usually pick up on these things pretty fast. I've modded the heck out of it so I'm pushing around 620ish rwhp with an auto and Nittos. Everything shifts well and no other issues other than the howling. Can anyone offer me any advice as to my problem? I added the Richmond 3.73's after we finished the modding. That was about 2 years and 6000 miles ago. Any advice on what to do or check to see if this is something mundane or am I probably looking at time for new gears or worse due to pushing the limits on a OEM drive train?

Thanks.

I heard richmond gears are noisy gears to start with. I was going to do richmond but I am so glad that I got steered away to lingenfelter, the same company that make gears for LPE is the same company that make factory gears for the camaro.

Are you sure its the gears? If so, it could be an install issue. I have almost 2 years and 28K miles on mine with no issues. Mine have held together fine and still make no noise.

Thanks for the input.
I talked to my speed shop that did the install and I'm taking it there to have it looked at and evaluated.
I've been wanting to do a little more tweeking and upgrading the torque converter so this seems like a good reason to do that while they check the "howling" situation.

Thanks.

Put Richmond gears my LS1 Z28 and I could never get them quiet. I had one of the best installers in the area work on them and they were still very noisy. I ended up swapping in some gears from an M6 (GM gears) and they were whisper quiet.
So it was the gears and not the installation.

I have the richmond 4.11's from JRE along with the urethane bushings which resonate the sound more than the rubber bushings would, I also have the whine. I've put about 1200 miles on this rear end and I have changed the diff fluid 7 times. Valvoline twice, Mobile, Penzoil, Royal Purple, Redline shock proof, and finally Lucas. All of the oils were non synthedic except for RP and Redline, all of the weights were 85w x 140w except for Redline that was 250W. The quietest oil that seemed to work was the Lucas, RP and Redline did not last more than 10 miles each before I changed them out. The worst was the Redline, noise all the way through any speed. All oil changes I made I also added 1 pint of Ford friction modifier. Just thought I would share my experiences with you guys.

Cheers!

Make sure the installer has a housing spreader for installation. Next time add an LPW differential cover with the torque bolts. I had four rear ends built before I got rid of the howl with the LPW cover.
