If I want to take delivery in spring 2017, when should I order?

I hope to order a 2017 SS so that I can take delivery next spring. Ideally, I'd like to have it by Memorial Day, but not really any sooner than Easter. Basically, I don't want to take delivery on something that immediately gets to just sit in my garage, lol. That 20%/0% for 72 months make jumping on an in stock 2016 enticing, but not enticing enough for me as ordering a 2017 is an emotional decision of which there is no price that can be paid to ever do again.

I've not talked to any dealers yet, so maybe my question is premature, but nonetheless, would waiting until after the first of the year be OK, or would that be too late? I'm only looking to order a 1SS manual -- maybe 1LE depending on price (which seems like we'll never know, lol) -- but nothing elaborate or anything that I would think might get held up in production due to supplier problems or something for special options/parts.

So, what does the peanut gallery -- and our dealership employees -- think?

As above, but not knowing what others consider to be Spring, 6 to 8 weeks before hoped for delivery date, bearing in mind the V8 will likely be in limited supply for the Camaro vehicle line to the end of the model year.

Very good info -- thanks. My birthday is March 8, so that seems like a good time to order my present. The last thing I'd want to have happen, though, is for something to get delayed and then have my car pushed into MY18.

As for allocation -- that won't be a problem... there is only one dealer that I won't buy from, so I'll travel if necessary.

I think when to order is going to be hard to predict. Zl1 and 1LE orders are going to add some more variables to the ordering process. I don't think anybody knows how these will affect the assembly plant. Just something to think about.

That's also cutting it close to the 2018 model ordering window being open. For example, I ordered my 2017 on April 29th of this year. So you'd be about a month away from doing that.

Even if you aren't going to get a 2018, that means the 2017's might get some great incentives. For example, the 2016's this year got the 0% APR for 72 months to help get them off the lots. Lots of people were happy to snag that deal.

A bit of advice that a dealer friend told me. In order to make quarterly sales, incentives are often offered in March and April. You may want to consider, ordering earlier than March.
