WARNING to Anyone Adding an Exhaust - Diffuser Could Melt!

All, I have the GMPP exhaust and I am very happy with it. However, the other day I noticed something on the diffuser. When I bent down to look at it, I realized that the diffuser right above the exhaust was melted. In fact, when I looked at it more closely, a hole was melted completely through it. As I looked more closely, I noticed that the outlet on one side wasn't mounted as far out through the diffuser and it was a little closer to the top than evenly centered in the diffuser hole.

I took it to the dealer immediately. As always, they were great. They ordered the replacement diffuser and said they would readjust the outlet on that side to make sure it didn't happen again. If this had not been the GMPP exhaust and the dealer had not installed it, I am not so sure they would be doing so at no cost.

So, let this be a warning to you. Make sure you evenly mount the exhaust in the diffuser outlet and make sure it is sticking out through the diffuser far enough. I have included a few pictures of the melted side and of the other side.

Yeah there was another car where the dealer did not center it and it did that. Yours also are sitting a little farther back in than mine.

It looks like it may be happening because the exhaust tips are sitting pretty far back. I will keep that in mind when I change out mine.

You´re not going to believe me, but I have an appointment with an exhaust shop in 30 min.
I got my magnaflow installed yesterday but tought that the exhaust tips where sticking out of the diffuser to much (about 1")
This is the look I want:

I was worried about the tips getting to close to the diffuser, but my mechanic told me that the MAIN problem is the hot air blowing thru the diffuser.

Thanks for posting your problem.

yea the tip itself doesnt do it, its the actual exhaust gas that does. every damn GMPP system ive seen has done this one time or another many come into service like that

yeah the exhaust is way to far back. . . thus the melting... it is suppose to stick past the plastic.

Just to play devil's advocate here but if you had gotten it done at a speed shop and not at the dealer, I wonder if they would have allowed the tip to sit so far back?

Please excuse my ignorance, what exhaust did you buy, I see that they sell two different kinds and I know one is " Off road". Did they do anything else to you car besides the exhaust, and lastly if you don't mind, how much did they charge you? Thanks
