DANG ECONOMY!!!

Well it was just announced today my company is giving everyone a 5% pay cut across the board. They also announced a Layoff of 200 to 300 non operations people.
This would include anyone in Engineering which I am part of. The Layoffs will occur sometime in the next 4 to 6 weeks. the Paycuts start March 30th.

Since my wife has not been working because of health reasons, and now I am getting a paycut and possible layoff I have to start considering canceling my Camaro order.

This is what I call the Snowball effect...
Companies lay people off or have pay cutbacks because they are not selling enough product. Well that causes the consumer to cut back buying more products, which causes more cutbacks and layoffs by companies.. and so on and so forth.. where will it end? like a SNOWBALL rolling down hill, the problem gets bigger and bigger..

I said layoff but they say now it is a Worforce reduction, which means no chance of getting called back. they will just hire someone new at a lower wage if things pick back up...

32 years I have been here and this is the worst I have ever seen it.. Since December things have gotten sooo bad....

I feel your pain. I work in Alberta in the Oil & Gas industry (as a supplier) and times are tough here as well, O & G compaines are cutting spending which means cuts to all. We have issued temp layoffs to half our field staff and almost a third of our office, we are hoping that it is a temporary thing but if the price of oil stays where it is things will get worse before they get better.

It's not that I haven't been paying attention to what has been going on with the economy it's that I have been very hopefull of a turn around, as I am sure most are.

I have been putting aside money for my Camaro but that money might be needed elsewhere soon. I'm not sure if the deposits that I put on my car are refundable or I am going to have to kiss $5000 good bye? Guess I will have to call my dealer to find out for sure just in case.

Hoping for the best for you. After 32 years at the same job it is very disheartening to you you I am sure to have things put in jeopardy like this. Best of luck to you this afternoon.

Just talked to a guy that is in my department that his group already met with the department head... Our department will be effected, probably around 6 people out of 120...
Anybody need a electrical engineering technician?
