The Camaro will be a daily driver for me. I was impressed that the V6 provides 300+ horsepower (plenty of performance for my purposes) using regular gas with high 20's mpg numbers. The fact that the RS package provides the same wheels, tires, gauges, audio system and spoiler as the V8 models sealed it.

When my girl friend was looking for a car, I tried talking her into getting an LS1 fbody, but she settled on the V6 based on not needing a v8. She doesn't care too much for the power, it's OKAY for her but now she regrets it almost everyday that she didn't get the v8 based on the sound of the exhaust alone.

the new 5th gen v6 Camaro should be a neat car with the same retro styling and it has an alright peppy engine. The only problem I see happening is that it just won't ever have that sound people want or expect.

Wow. I know it's not exactly V6 related, but that is the best and truest pic of ABM I've ever seen. If anyone hasn't seen the color in person, that pic is the truest representation of it. Very nice.

Arc, you are killing me. I have seen you go from v6 to v8 many times over the last many months. You have "locked" in your color at least three times that I can think of. It is one of the joys of this site.

Are you married? If so, how did you ever pick the right one?

BTW, I canceled my order also. Taxes were very unkind to me this year, and my $$ reserves are now gone.

This is the hardest decision, I just cant figure out which is better for me. Will be a daily driver, the lower gas and price would be nice for the v6 but not required. Gonna have to wait until some actual users get their cars and some better reviews come out.

For those who just want to go "stupid fast", (to steal a term from one of the reviews, its the only choice). For those looking for a car more balanced for a daily driver, then the v6 is a better match. Anyone who still wants a ss for a daily driver after fully weighing the factors should get what they want. There are no bad models in the camaro lineup.
Very well said. The V6 models are key to the Camaros success and having the needed sales volumes to stay alive. From all the reviews and opinions on here it looks as if Chevy has the winner they need to be competitive. I am a V8 guy but am very glad to see such a well balanced V6 offered. I hope the general public likes it as much as we all seem to.

But you V6 guys should be dang happy and proud of your cars. I mean go look up the specs for 1988 Z-28 Iroc with the LI1. Your cars will stomp what was a dang nice Camaro.

Sorry, I am one of the Camaro enthusiasts around here so I have to correct you. The 1988 IROC came with a 230HP B2L 350. For comparisons sake you are right about the V6 taking it. Motor Trend had tested it at 15.2 secs in the 1/4 at 91.2MPH. If you were trying to say LT1 those came in the 1993-1997 4th gens. Rated from 275-285 HP and were more in line with what the 5th gen V6's are getting performance wise. The 1993 Z28 LT1 ran 14.7 at 96.9 in the quarter (Motor Trend again). Much better competition for the 5th gen V6.

The 4th gen LS1's fall in between the 5th gen SS and V6. In Motor Trend an 02 Camaro SS ran a 13.49 and 107.34. The 0-60 was 5.19.

Sorry if this is annoying to some to give this info but I am a Camaro nut and wanted to show you who are trying to decide how good the V6 does stack up against past V8 Camaros.

I was in the same dilemma. At first I was very set on getting the 1SS mostly because of it's huge Brembos and FE3 suspension. After reading both cars have similar stopping power and handling performance I'm leaning towards the V6 now. Please correct me if I'm wrong but I came to a sense that the SS's extra stopping power and stiffer suspension are there to compensate the extra weight of the V8 motor. I don't drag race my car and I prefer the "tossability" of the lighter V6 better. I lust the SS power output but I don't drag race therfore 304hp is probably good enough for me. I also drive alot in the snow and I'm thinking of getting a set of LS steelies and throw some snow tires on them during the winter. (Not sure if the steelies can fit over the SS's Brembos?) Besides, the roads here in NYC are pretty crappy I think the softer FE2 will be more suitable.
