The LS3 manual transmission Camaro has 426 brake horsepower @ 5900 rpm, with 420 lb. ft. of torque @ 4600 rpm.

The L99 Camaro only has 400 brake horsepower @ 5900 rpm with 410 lb. of torque @ 4300 rpm.

Could someone please tell me why the HORSEPOWER is not the same for both the LS3 & the L99 Camaro. The information in the Camaro brochure, lists that they both have the EXACT SAME 6.2 liter (376) cu. in. engine. I am confused!

Also the REDLINE Max RPM for the LS3 is listed @ 6600, & the REDLINE Max RPM for the L99 is listed @ 6200. The top speed for BOTH cars also is listed 155 mph. Again, I am confused!

Thank You So Much in advance for the information.

All The Best,

Orange 2010 Camaro
The LS3 has a bigger camshaft, lighter lifters, stronger valve springs, and more compression. All these contribute to a higher redline and more horsepower.

The L99 has a smaller camshaft, heavier lifters, weaker valve springs and less compression. All these contribute to a lower redline and less horsepower. But it also have VVT which gives it a flatter torque curve. And last, but not least, it has AFM, which contributes to it's demise and it's owners misery.

When I started looking at these cars and found out that if I paid $1100 MORE for the automatic, I got an engine with 26 hp & 10 ftlb LESS, that tried to turn itself into a 4 cyl. on the highway, that sounds like a sick Honda with a fart can on it, It became a no-brainer for me. Pushing a clutch didn't seem so bad after all!

I'll bet my little l99 with 369 rwhp will kick the butt off your 416 rwhp stick car.

And most L99 owners convert to LS3. I've been on these boards for several years and I've yet to see a LS3 to L99 conversion.
Why can't everybody just be honest?
We all know that the LS3 is the better engine and the 6L80E better transmission, at least for drag racing.
The problem is that GM didn't build that combo.
So I guess if you bought your car for drag racing, it's easier to buy the automatic and convert the engine to a LS3.
I didn't buy my car for drag racing and I think the LS3/TR6060 combo is much more fun and much less hassle. No LS3 conversion.
Different strokes for different folks.

Sorry...I didn't mean to hit a nerve. I thought with 47 extra hp you would have defended your car..

You didn't hit a nerve. That's why I saw no reason to argue with you.

Ive noticed over the past year that I have been on this board that the L99 guys sure spend lots of time defending themselves and justifying their choice

Really? If you're ever in Kansas, feel free to join me for a autoX.

Thing is, ANYONE can drive an auto with pretty good results. Being consistent and posting good ETs with a M6 actually takes some skill, and to me, is more rewarding. Same reason I always ran N/A, everyone else was just throwing in bigger N2O Jets, I actually put in some design and work into my engine, and was still competitive....not the easy way, but I felt good knowing I worked hard for it.

Oh yeah, to the OP.
I hope you learned a lesson.
There's 3 subjects that you NEVER bring up on these boards unless you WANT to start an argument.
1. LS3 vs L99
2. Auto vs Stick.
3 V8 vs V6

Hi, My name is dyn2av8. I was an Autoholic for 10 plus years. I have been driving a Manual for 2 months now and I have to say WAHOOOOO!

Probably been said before but:

http://www.askmen.com/top_10/cars/to...ive-stick.html

Top10: Reasons Real Men Drive Stick - AskMen.com

the list in short:

10. A manual transmission is the ultimate in control
9. You can use automotive jargon and not sound like a total tool
8. You can't spell "manual" without "man"
7. Manual transmissions prove you can do more than one thing at a time
6. You can't drift in an auto
5. You can't pull fancy moves in an automatic
4. You get better fuel economy with a stick
3. You’ll never look like a chump if you can drive stick
2. Manual transmission cars are faster
1. Women like a guy who is good with his hands.

OK-6, 5 and 2 may be up for debate!

Seriously though ANY Camaro driver is tops in my book!
Cheers to the Weekend!!!

So serious question... why does no one seem to bring up drive-train loss when talking about auto vs manual? Everyone always mentioned 26hp but doesn't take into account the extra 5% or so lost through auto vs manual.

Not trying to argue as honestly I have nothing against autos or those who choose them, but isn't that also as important as well? that 26hp turns into closer to 35 or so all said and done.

Curious if you've had your car to the track? If so, what have you run?
